Electrical question

We recently purchased a second-hand 2001 Pioneer Fleetwood camper trailer. The unit has an onboard inverter. The people we purchased it from were living in it, and it was electrically connected to a 30-amp outlet from their house. With that connection, and WITHOUT ANY BATTERY, all electrical systems functioned properly - the 120-V AC outlets worked (TV, etc.) and all onboard 12-V DC systems also worked. Remember, this is WITHOUT A BATTERY ATTACHED. Now that we have the camper on our land, we see that hooking up a deep-cycle battery will allow all 12-V DC systems to work, and if we disconnect the battery and connect to a generator, only the 120-V AC systems will work. We need BOTH battery and generator for everything to work. We want all systems to work without a battery, and this is how the previous owners used it for a year. What are we doing wrong? Is there a switch or fuse that permits the generator to power everything? To summarize: We would like to work all electrical systems using ONLY a generator, we know it can be done, but now that option has stopped working. We're looking for suggestions on what the problem might be. Thanks.

Welcome alisa53 to irv2.
All your systems will work with or without your battery.
When connected to shore power 30 amps your converter, which also charges your battery if connected will supply the 12V needed to operate all your control boards for appliances, 12V lights and the 110 outlets in RV.
If you have a Gen it will take precedence over shore power if you have a transfer switch. If no transfer switch you may have to manually have to plug your 30 amp cord into a outlet that comes from the Gen.
This link will explain your RV POWER SYSTEMS.
