We bought a slightly used Jayco 27 ft TT that we really like  But, when the trailer has been closed up for a while, your eyes will burn like crazy when you go in it. If you air it out, you are fine. There is a sticker on the door warning of formaldehyde (sp?), is that what causes the eyes burning? How do you get rid of it?

It's called outgassing, and, yes, that's what the sticker is talking about. It's the materials and adhesives used in the 5th wheel, its furnishings, etc. giving off their volatile constituents.
The ultimate solution is time, but opening a vent or taking other measures to circulate some air through the RV while in storage or while on the road to your destination will help.

Your Jayco appears to be about the same size as ours. We're very pleased with ours. I would suggest (if you don't have these already) installing Maxx Air covers on all your roof vents. Then, you can leave your roof vents open and allow fresh air to circulate throughout the TT.

Thanks for the replies! So in time this will stop? In the mean time, we just need to circulate some air through it, right?

We do love the Jayco! ours is a 27bh, bunks in the back for the kids.

Yes, just like "new car smell", it will ultimately disappear. Giving the volatile constituents somewhere to go by circulating some fresh air through the RV will help in the meantime.

I have the same problem in our new Jayco 5th Wheel. I have been wondering what to do about it. It's nice to hear it will go away in time.

needs lots of airing out. my trainer is over a year old and in hot weather i still get that burning sensation.

My new Open Road does the same. I had the same problem with my Wanderer when it was new. It seems like it took 2 summers to finally get rid of the smell/sting. I'm been told that it has to do with the formaldehyde they use in the building process.

One recent day at the LazyDays lot in Sefner Florida we popped in to look at the new units that they hadn't prepped yet and you could barely walk into some of them due to the formaldehyde. It is a great preservative adn probably keeps the infestations down before they are sold but...
Camping World is currently having a two for the price of one special on no hole vent covers. They clamp on the vent flange using stainless steel clamps so you don't have to make any holes in your roof to install them.

I agree with the others....my buddy and I bought Newmar Class A's within several weeks of each other, his has been sitting more and not aired out or used much, we've been using ours...
Get out there and use it, run the A/C and fans and air it out, you'll be fine...
We took delivery on July 7th and have been on two or three trips and the eye "burning" is gone...
