EZ Lube Axles

Hi, New to the site. Got a question. How often do you lube the EZ lube axles. Hope this aint a stupid question. I think your supposed to repack them yearly.

They need to be check once a year and repacked if needed. Be carefull if you are useing the grease nipples on the axle I have read that people have had issue using them.

The bearings and races need to be inspected every year which requires removal and repacking and replacement of the seal. Grease can last many years so the EZ Lube hubs are not really needed on popups, TT's and other dry land rigs.

Boat trailer hubs should be re-greased after every submersion so Bearing Buddies or EZ Lube axles are the bomb for those.

If the rear seal is not good then you will end up with grease on the brakes. These are NOT a substitute for servicing as you will not know if there is excessive wear or contamination and you can have too much grease which causes excess heat and failure.

"Ball bearing lubrication in centrifugal pumps 14-1." has nothing to do with tapered roller bearings in automotive or trailer use.

Yes, they were designed for marine use, but a lot of trailer manufacturers use them, so this question comes up a lot.

The Dexter manual says to inspect the e-z lube bearings every year, which would mean you would re-pack them at that time, and replace the rear seals. However, many people get away with only doing it every two or three years, especially if you don't put on a lot of miles. If you do "lube" using the nipple, make sure you raise the wheel off the ground and turn the wheel while injecting grease - failure to do this seems to be the major cause of the blown rear seals that so many people talk about. We don't use our trailer very much, just two or three thousand miles a year, and I do an inspection and manual re-pack every two years - it's not that big of a job, once you learn how to do it. I don't bother to squirt in any grease between manual re-packing, but if I ever feel the hubs getting too hot to touch, then I will.

I have never used mine.I went as far as to remove the ugly looking things from my hubs and put on reg.grease caps so I could put on some versa-lok hub caps to cover my hubs and lugs. I always pull the drums to manually check everything once a year just to be safe.
