Tom & Ken:

That's why I'm gonna have to watch my weights to start off with- my first official duty will be to tow the empty TH to the CAT scales and figure out all the weights. I know there'll be trips where Moski will just have to drive the Jeep to where we're goin', because she's going to want full water and fuel on board.

In the 4 years we've been towing this 37, I have regularly had it weighed, especially when I've thought we're extra heavy- the most I've had it to is 21940 GCW- with sandcar, 2 bikes, all of my DJ equipment, full water & fuel- and that was before the Banks. It was on a week's trip to the Colorado River with some pretty good hills along the way. So I know it'll do it, but for how long I don't know. And just being over DOES worry me due to gossamar's last post.

We'll just have to pre-plan until a new TV is a reality! Thanks much guys!!

Hi WWFan, This is an update to my gear change. After installing the 4.1 gearset my Towing mileage dropped to-get this- 12.3mpg from 13mpg with the 3.55 gearset. For my truck 65mph=2080rpm. Our new 5er weighs 3K more than the old 5er. Granted, I now cruise at 62-65 instead of 70mph, but that is a very small mileage difference for such a huge improvement in pulling power. I towed about 70 of those miles with CC set at 63-65mph, and none of the S. Indiana hills encountered slowed my CTD+5er by more than 2-5mph. Total gear change cost was $842 including new gears, all new bearings and seals in the third member, 3 new U joints, speedo gear for new ratio, and labor. The shop that performed the work primarily does gears and third members for race cars and dragsters.
