Floor Vents

I am wondering how big of a deal it really is to have the heat ducted through floor vents. I really liked a particular Rockwood model, but the vents run right down the middle of the floor. That's a deal breaker for me, for aesthetic reasons. Then I found an Aerolite model that I think would be perfect but it also has floor vents, although they're more intelligently placed than in the Rockwood model. So I'm looking for your opinions on whether or not floor vents are the worst thing in the world. (We have two German Shedders.)

Where else would you have the furnace ducts come out...walls/ceiling??


YES..some RV MFGs place them in the most unlikely of spots.
So pass on those


Another thing.....replace the cheap stamped metal registers with better quality ones that won't snap when you happen to step on them

Very few manufacturers have the vents coming out of the walls. With dogs I might look for better registers that would do better at keeping out the fine undercoat your does have.

I used to have that same breed until I petted the dog as sun was coming thru the window. It looked like an atomic bomb of dog dander exploded. That was the last big dog I ever had. I learned that small dogs have just as much personality so I am now a small dog person. They eat less and have much smaller poo. They also are easier to fit into the truck. Check out Affenpincher dogs. They are my new love.

Anyway, have vents in the floor is ok with me.

I mean...some manufacturers run the duct work under the cabinets so that you don't get vents in the floor. I think Grand Design is one and one of the Coachmen lines, but I don't remember which one. And Lance, I think. But I can see how eliminating all trailers with vents in the floor would seriously limit our options.

Thanks for your input. If not that many manufacturers move the vents off the floor, I guess we won't have much choice. Sadly.

I think my next dog is going to be an F1B Doodle of some kind. Or a standard poodle.

Grand Design Solitude has the vents in the toekick of the cabinets. In the floor gets full of dog hair and M&M's.

Yes, I just checked and the Imagines do as well. I'm not sure any of the floor plans are quite what I'm looking for, though. I just need to get in some more trailers to get a feel for how much space is in a trailer of [X] length.

Heater vents should be low in the room, because heat rises. Putting them in the floor makes perfect sense, though I agree it's not always attractive.

I know it makes sense from the standpoint that heat rises. But in addition to being unattractive, the vents will catch a lot of dirt and God forbid anyone ever spills a liquid. Also, with the floor plan where the vents are, literally, running down the middle of the trailer, I'd be worried about one of the dogs catching a nail and bleeding all over the place.

Throw rugs work good when not using furnace, and an electric portable heater is also very handy...

My husband says it won't be hard to figure out some way to block them off when not in use. I said as long as they're not right out in the middle of the floor. Too bad, because I really like the Rockwood floor plans.

Our furnace vents are on the bottom of the walls, through cabinets actually I have a Grand Design and our Jayco was the same

That is a clever idea and worth checking out, but it would have to be "pretty stuck" to withstand the onslaught of our dogs.
