Good Sam Roadside Assistance - SCAM

I'm a member of Good Sam Roadside - trying to cancel membership. On March 25th I called and requested a tech (due to a gas leak in trailer, it was full of gas) and a tow vehicle. I was told that they would not send a tech or tow vehicle, but to light my hot water heater to burn the gas out of my lines. If I had did what they said. I would be dead! They gave me a number to a mobile tech that ONLY works on semi-trucks. I called Good Sam Roadside to cancel my account. They refused and said to call dealership that I bought the plan through. I called dealership. Good Sam Roadside is refusing to let dealership cancel my account also! Good Sam Roadside is a rip-off and a scam!

What kind of gas leak are you talking about, I'm assuming it is propane due to your comment about the water heater. Why did you need a tow vehicle. I wouldn't have lit any appliances, but the water heater pilot is outside of the trailer and most likely would have just burnt off any pressure. You could have just turned off the propane at the tank, and then opened the windows to air it out. I would guess that they would expect you to use your own tow vehicle to tow your trailer to a repair facility. Why didn't you just do that. If you read the actual uses for the "Emergency" roadside assistance I think you may find this wasn't considered something they would send you a tow truck for. I wouldn't want my MH/RV towed by anybody unless it absolutely had to be. You could have towed it safely with your own vehicle.

Were you traveling? How is this roadside assistance? Roadside assistance is only about $100+ a year: When is the policy due again? Have you used it during the last year? I'm not defending Good Sam, there have been many posts from dissatisfied customers, but there seems to be a lot of information missing from your rant. I do hope you get the problem repaired. I can understand that you're frustrated with the info you recieved, but let's try to put this in perspective.
First a question.
The way your post is written , I take it your trailer is in an RV park, you have an internal propane leak, and you don't have a vehicle to tow it your self , is this the situation?
In their defense " Roadside Assistance " is just that ; they aren't into RV repair, i.e. propane leaks; if you're stuck on the road side with a broken down tow vehicle or a trailer that can no longer be moved with your tow vehicle ; that's what they do.
If the dealer who sold you the plan said " Roadside Assistance " covers everything , then he miss-represented what you were paying for and your argument should be with them.
I believe that Good Sam does have policies that offer an extended warranty coverage for RVs, so maybe it's time to sit down calmly with your paperwork and read carefully what is and isn't covered by your policy.

I agree with Skip. There is a difference between roadside assistance and extended warranty and repairs. Repairs are not a covered item in roadside assistance.

Sit down with the dealer and determine exactly what you bought.

Update: Good Sam Roadside Assistance Corporate office contacted me. They are pulling phone call recordings, talking to the guy that told me light my hot water heater while my trailer was full of gas. Why tow vehicles where not sent out.

We have had GS Roadside Asst for years... Never had an issue. Where we have had issue is with some of the folks sent out!!!

Example: We had a blow out last year, The tow driver that was sent out said his truck would not hook-up until we paid him $500.00. I smiled and asked if he would take a check made out to cash? he said sure.

Our GS Roadside is 100.00 deduc. I said stand by I'll get my check book. Went into the MH, called GSRA explained what was happening, Rep said to stall and he would call police and get another tow company out ASAP.

To make a long story short. Cop shows up tow driver gets arrested and new dispatched truck repairs tire and GSRA paid 50% of cost of new tire to make things right for what had happened.

It's to be expected. Like all Insurance. If they can get out of paying they will. The object of insurance is to collect premiums and pay out as little as possible. It's the business model.

You pays your money and takes your chances!

You are all obviously missing the point! But honestly the OP needs to come back and clarify the situation and answer the questions. Until then, it might be a troll. But the main point is... NO company should refuse to cancel a "paid" membership. At least honest ones won't do that. It reminds me back in the early 2000 when we joined Netflix... it was garbage back then and they done everything they could to avoid cancelling the membership... If your tech news history serves you right, Netflix's tactics were put on the news... they changed their tactics quick and became legit.

Of course telling anyone to light ANYTHING with a gas leak is just plain dumb!

not an emergency...............shut off propane at tank, open windows, tow to a mechanic....................would be in the same class as if your radio or air conditioning quit working................

Agree, does not seem to be any emergency, for a person with ant common sense !!! But a lot of those out there !!!

We have Geico on all our wheeled vehicles, have had to use it twice on the cars, and could not have been more pleased, tow truck was there in less than 30 mins. on both, hope the same on the RV if ever needed !!!

Be did pop for the Good Sam extended warrentee, that covers almost all the systems on the TT, we will see on that.

We are on our 2nd new Dometic AC unit, but has still been done on the original warrentee, no cost to us !!!!
