A snip from Firestone.
"The speed rating of a tire indicates the speed category (or range of speeds) at which the tire can carry a load under specified service conditions."

That is my favorite part and also the peace of mind that I get with them.

We have about 1500 miles on our GYs that we installed early April '17. So far, all good. I generally roll at about 70 mph, and keep a check on the pressures before heading out and heading home on all trips and always do a walk-around at all stops. I like the fact that, should I have an issue, a Goodyear dealer isn't far away. And I feel better with American made tires under our "home away from home"!

Why would you think it appropriate to use technical information from one company for tires from another company?

Because the standard is across the board and you know it.

I may understand the 75 mph limit in RV application but I am reading many posts from owners that feel speeds above 75 are OK. Have even seen a report that one tire company has approved in writing any speed as molded on tire sidewall (above 100 mph in that case). While that company may be willing to imply such capability I doubt that Goodyear, Bridgestone or Michelin would support any RV application at higher than 65 or 75 mph without significant changes in inflation and load capacity which we are not seeing.
If 75 is the max then why is Goodyear touting their "N" speed (81 mph) without any inflation or load adjustment which is in the standards as they previously stated.
To my knowledge there is no magic that allows tires to now perform at substantially higher speed and higher load than they have been for the last 30+ years. IMO there are games being played by Sales & Marketing that do not have the technical support to justify these new performance criteria. FMVSS does not cover these speed ratings in their testing procedures unless there have been some significant new regulatory standards issued in the last 12 months.

I'm not a "tire guy" by any stretch and not trying to get into any debates. But from my perspective I switched from a D-rated, 8 ply Tireking tire operating at a max of 65 psi and rated for 65mph up to a E-rated, 10 ply Goodyear operating at a max of 80 psi and rated at 87 mph. Goodyear will tell you that it is necessary to run their tire at full pressure (80 psi) to achieve the top speed rating. Drop the tire to 65 psi and you will risk a blowout at speeds above 65 mph due to a heat buildup. Keep it up to 80 psi and the combination of tire construction and higher pressure to dissipate heat allows safe usage at the higher speeds. That is the difference between running D vs E rated and why I switched over. JMO :-)

Can I ask you what they cost? My 5er runs 235/85 16 E on the west coast at American Tire 4 of them out the door cost $932.87 that includes $99 for road hazard warranty. The base tire price is $175 each before tax and everything else they add.
