i grease the zerk about every 4,
ummm i am over due to pull the wheels and do em
and check out my brake pads...thanks i geuss i shall do it this week

Good point powerboater ! One should not depend on just squirting some grease in the zerks and forgetting about them as I did since I bought my 5ver.

On the last trip out, my Brakesmart Controller kept squawking an error " Trailer Wiring Problem Detected" and the trailer brakes would only work intermittemly.

A check with the local dealer for ALKO axels said most likely a magnet was failing. Since she had a bolt on brake kit for a really good price I decided to replace the brakes on all four wheels. Well when I pulled the drums off did I get a few surprizes. That is after struggling on each wheel to get the dang cotter pins out. Danged idiots used a nut that was slotted for the pin to go thru the center of the axel but when they drilled it to install the zerk fittings they had to offset the cotter pin hole which didn't match up with the slots in the nut. Anyway removing and replacing the cotter pins took more time than replacing the brake kits.

Back to the surprizes:
A brake pad on one wheel was cracked in half, The main top retaining spring on another wheel was broken in half, a seal was blown on another wheel and grease was everywhere. The brakes were wired in series and not parallel as reccommended (probably the reason for the total brake failure at times). The trailer came from the factory with shocks installed and 3 of the 4 were broken in half and no loger hooked to the chassis, and a tire was rubbing on a bracket that the factory had welded on right in the middle of the wheel well.

I removed and replaced all the brake kits, rewired the brakes in parallel, cleaned and repacked wheel bearings, removining all old grease from drums, replaced all grease seals, reinstalled drums and adjusted braakes. Toook the one remaining shock off and ordered new ones and removed the bracket in the wheel well.

I won't depend on just squirting some grease in the zerks from now on and take the time once a year to remove and inspect the innards before I have brake problems again.

I sent the manufacture and email and they came back with the 12 month 12,000 mile deal. If it were a boat trailer that was getting wet often then I would think that more grease is better but on the TT It would seem you could do some damage to your seals, brakes. I guess time will tell. Just got back from a great trip wish I would have bought one sooner.
