hardwired surge protector issue

Hi All

I have a 30amp progressive industries unit that I installed a couple weeks ago and it's hardwired.
On the first trip I turned everything on and everything seemed fine with proper read out and no errors. The next day it got hot and I turned on the ac and the surge guard shut off the power completely to the coach. after a couple seconds it turns on again and then shuts off. The ac only works when I switch the surge guard to the bypass mode.
I'm hooked up to a 30amp service.

Any idea what could be the problem?

Thanks in advance!

Update. I saw a PE4 in the display and it looks like it means I have low voltage.

He's anyone else experience this as well?

The weird thing is that according to ther display. The voltage seems to be around 114. Earlier yesterday outt this morning I saw close to 105 or so.

I have a 50 amp surge protector installed, I did the install. Did you install or have someone else?
Make sure that the power wires go through the proper ring (not sure what they are called), and that the ring's arrow and incoming power line are in the correct alignment.

First off, call Dave or Anthony at Progressive. (1-800-307-6702 press 2 Make sure you have a multi-meter (volt meter) when you call. They will instruct you on what to check with the meter. If you have your sales receipt and they deem it 'broken' they will send you an new unit.

A few days ago, my 50 amp hard wired Progressive quit working. I had to actually remove the unit and using wire butt connectors connect the wires together to keep power in the coach. (It's plugged in and parked in my garage)

I called Progressive and Anthony had me wire up the unit so power was going into the unit. Input power was there but no output power. He had me remove the lid to the big relay and lo and behold it worked. They said that wasn't acceptable so a new unit is being shipped to me.

The 'rings' as described in the post above only measure amperage load. A 50 amp unit has 2 'rings' , one for each leg and the 30 amp unit has 1 'ring' and, that's not the problem you're encountering.

The device is reacting to an "instantaneous" low voltage reading of less than the cutoff voltage. The fact that the display looks normal to you by the time you go back there doesn't mean anything--the low voltage is occurring when the AC is starting up and/or when it is running. The reset after a couple of seconds is how the Progressive is designed--if the low voltage is no longer detected it will switch back on again.

You don't say if you are at a CG or if you are at home. If it's a CG then I suspect its wiring can't support all the AC's in use. If you're at home, then what outlet are you connected to?

Your problem could also be the AC itself. If the compressor is binding when it starts it could "depress" the voltage. That can often be alleviated by installation of a "hard start kit" on the compressor.

Your display should indicate why the PI EMS won't supply voltage to the coach, i.e. E-04 is low voltage. Even when it supplies voltage, it will display the previous fault i.e. PE-04. I suspect the pedestal is incapable of supplying enough voltage to the coach when the A/C is on, so the PI EMS is trying to protect the A/C but you keep overriding it.

Believe in the EMS it is telling you there is low voltage. It is doing it job. If you bypass it the EMS can’t save your A/C.

If its hot and you turned on your AC, probably so did everyone else in the campground. We had the same issue, the voltage dropped way down about 11am when everyone turned on the AC, then came back up at night after people shut their AC off. Look at it this way, before you had the EMS installed, you would have possibly damaged your AC.

Sounds like you are having occational low voltage in the. CG. Not uncommon for 30a service especially in older CG or many people with large loads.

The PI EMS unit is doing what it is supposed to do.

Put a High Autoformer between the pedistal and the PI EMS. Autoformer boost low voltage.

Hi everyone.

thank you for your feedback. This forum has been extremely valuable!

Looks like the voltage at the CG went from about 114 to below 104. After and hour or so it stabilized and it was hovering at 107 with the ac on.

That's right on the verge of being too low. I thought 108 and below was the danger point.

Unplug, and open the cover and retighten the connections, they will be loose. After installing anything like this, and then rattling down the road, you always need to recheck the connections, and every couple of years afterwards, every electrical connection in the coach.
