I think I found a few lite weight 5300# bullets as well that looked real nice...
Do be aware of the confusion among manufacturer methods of stating length- some give length of the box, others include everything but the spare tire. (Heaven forbid they should provide anything so helpful as dimensional drawings with measurements.)

This one's 30.5 length is given as "overall". I think that means it's ball-to-bumper. "House" length is likely closer to 26-27 ft.

So that should be even better if it is 26 ft should make it a more manageable tow...

You are correct though, it would be nice if they were more specific on what the length is.

Apex 288BHS has two doors, bunks and a queen front. The dinette being on your camp side is nice to watch the kids play if your getting food ready. Also the trailer is fully accessible when the slide is in if stopping at a rest area on your journey. Might be of interest for your to look at.

If you know how far you're willing it travel to buy a TT then you can identify what dealers are in that radius and see what they sell. Here's a link to dealers by state. RV Dealers Map locations in the US.

Good call-out.
My "2301" is actually nearly 27' overall.

Well it's been a little over a year since I originally posted. We have FINALLY found a camper that we all liked and it appears to fit nicely into my TV specs...

2016 Crossroads Sunset Trail 270BH. Probably won't be finalizing it and picking it up for a couple weeks, but we are pretty excited to finally begin our Camping Journeys!!!

Now I have a WHOLE LOT of other stuff to figure out...

Cool...that trailer has an areodynamic front end. That will help when towing. It also has wide track axles which is good.

Outside kitchen area will be great. Sleeps 10 !!!! Looks like the kids and their buddies can have a dry place to sleep when needed.

Let us know how it tows. I am betting you will be ok. I towed 5,500lb trailer with a newer F-150. The truck could tow that trailer fine without an areodynamic front nor wide track axles.

I see campfires and marshmallows in your future...enjoy!!!

Nice looking trailer... We had looked at that floorplan and liked it a lot. It's been a few years since we looked at that brand but I recall it had above average finish but the mattresses were very thin. Our dealer at the time suggested it would be a bit heavy for a 1/2 ton. I see the rated tongue weight is listed at 614lbs. That's for a base model, with no options, no AC, no batteries, no propane (empty bottles), no water, no gear.

My RV's hitch weight was rated at 430lbs from the factory, it actually weights 860 lbs (2 GC batteries, 60lb propane, electric tongue jack) Add to that the weight of the hitch, cargo in the truck, the bed cover, passengers... it all goes up pretty quick. We were storing nothing in the front pass thru and carried no water. My f150 had a 1650 lb payload rating. I was 200-500 lbs (depending on cargo) overweight on the rear axle and towing in windy conditions was very stressful. Any vehicle (even small cars) passing us would cause the truck and trailer to drift on the highway.

I'm not trying to scare you but just give you an idea of what you can expect. A fully optioned 1/2 ton 4x4 crew cab is about as poor as it gets as a towing platform.

It seems now days even small trailers advertised as ultralights often have very heavy tongue weights. I wish we could get some of the European spec'd trailers where an adult can lift the tongue.

Both truck manufacturers and RV manufacturers seriously mislead their customers as to what their vehicles weight and how they tow... It took us 3 years to realize that and either we were going back to a tent trailer or we changing the truck. We bit the bullet and traded up to a 3/4 ton. Still a good daily driver and even without the WDH installed, it's a pleasure to drive while towing. At the end of the day , my family's safety and my need to be able to relax while travelling were paramount.... Just my 2 cents.

Marcham's points on weight are right on. That was one of the reasons we didn't get the Sunset Trail... loaded hitch weight was too much for our SUV. No problem for the 3/4 ton, but it's nice to have options.
