Yesterday, I replaced a kitchen faucet, in my son's 26' Fleetwood Travel Trailer. The faucet was the typical two knobs, feeding one spout. When I completed hooking up the hot (red) and the cold (white) water lines, I turned the water on, to check for leaks. Well, the waterlines were backwards. The red line, that normally is the hot water, was flowing cold and the white line, which is the cold water, was hot! So, no problem, I'll just switch them! Now any good plumber knows the saying, "hot water is on the left, cold water is on the right and poop, won't run uphill". Following that reasoning, I switched the lines and now find that the hot water is still coming from the right and the cold water is coming from the left. That means that no matter which line, (red or white), the water knob on the right is "hot"! My son said "just remove the whole faucet assembly and turn it so that the hot handle is on the left". I said that it wouldn't work, because the water line on the right is still hot? What do any of you say?

Saw a segment on "Ask This Old House" where a homeowner had hot water coming out of the cold water lav valve.

The answer was a bad shower diverter valve nearby letting the hot water into the cold water lines!

I know it does not help, but, on these kinds of problems I have to be "Hands on!"

Why was the faucet changed, may be an indicator!

I'm not sure I'm getting a clear picture, of your problem ; with your description, do you mean to say, that no matter which line, red or white , you hook up to the, right side on the bottom of the new faucet, that the right side tap always delivers hot water, and the left side cold.

If so the first thing I'd check is to make sure the , shower taps, bathroom and out side if equipped , are turned off, at the taps , not just at the shower head, and that the winterizing valves at the hot water tank are in the correct position .

Can you re-install the original tap set, and get correct operation?

The faucet was just old and he (my son), wanted to put a new one in. I didn't think of turning on the old faucet, first, because it just didn't occur to me that something like that would happen.

Yes, when I switched the red & white lines, (thinking I had the color code wrong), hot water came out of the red line, but it was previously cold! So, no matter which line I attached, the hot water came from the right side. However, the red line had been previously delivering cold water! Remember, I'm not getting hot water from both lines, just the one attached to the right side of the faucet, which is supposed to be cold. I will check the winterizing valve tomorrow. I was gone all day today and just got home to read any replies. The problem, could be the winterizing valve, because a week ago, I had to flush antifreeze from the lines. Everything about the faucet worked fine today, it was just backwards, according to the plumbing rule. Thanks for all replies
