Hitch selection
I am completely new to travel trailers. Just bought a Shasta Phoenix. It is 27’ long and I need to get a tortion bar hitch with sway control. Any idea witch one is better than another?

You’ll need to provide information about the tow vehicle and the trailer to be more accurate. Many will recommend placing the TV and the TT information in you signature line.
It’s about 50/50 between the Blue Ox and the Equalizer. My Blue Ox is simple and saves time, but the Equalizer is less expensive and many swear by it. There is another highly rated ASWD but that is crazy expensive, you’ll need to manage a heavy trailer to justify that purchase.

Another vote for the Blue OX. Easy to hook up and performs flawlessly.

I'm in the market for a new hitch also. Etrailer recommends a Reese steadi flex for my setup. Anyone have any likes or dislikes on this hitch?

I bought the Anderson WD and Anti Sway hitch for my travel trailer. Relatively inexpensive (less than Equalizer 4 link). Works perfectly for my set up and I have not noticed any squeaks or groans from the hitch.

We travel in high wind areas and had an Equalizer brand it worked fine. We upgraded to a Hensley, though very expensive makes trailering in high cross winds a no sweat drive

Yes, that’s the crazy expensive hitch I was referring to. Based on a discussion at the time there is a weight to TV that made a necessity to get it. I didn’t fall into that.

I’ve been very happy with the Blue Ox with the Strap Tek, without the StrapTek, it was a dangerous PITA.
Yesterday I thought I would need to pull over with gusts over 35mph, a Canyon shot hitting us broadsides. Reminded me of the trip through Tropical Storm/Hurricane Lois from Antelope Canyon to Phoenix. Other than knowing I was being beaten up, I felt comfortable. The thought of a 2500/3500 and a Hensley did cross my mind, though the winning thought was not to worry about making my reservation at the Rest Stop on Interstate 5.

This is the hitch that I have based on the recommendations from etrailer also. It was definitely a leap of faith since it was new and not many people heard about it, not to mention used it. My only prior experience was with an Eaz-lift, and this felt like a pretty significant upgrade. It's pretty easy to install, hook up and unhook, and quiet. The brake pads make it pretty quiet. I am not sure how long they'll last but would be easily replaced if needed. I have found that there is a small adjustable part that keeps the ball in place that every once in a while I need to tighten (it's easy...just use a flat screw driver and a hammer to get snug again). There aren't a ton of nuanced and precise measurements...once it's set up you just go. I would buy it again. Let me know if you have any questions.

I've been using the Equal-i-zer hitch for the past 3 years and I'm pleased with it. Like all WD hitches, it has to be set up correctly and that will take some tinkering. Once adjusted for your TV and TT, it is quick and easy to hook up.
