Hot water heater flush

My trailer is just about 4 years old. I noticed the last time I open my low point drains that there was calcium sediment coming out of the hot water side.

I picked up the tools ($15) in the photo below to loosen the drain bolt and flush the bottom sediment of the hot water tank.

I use a water filter but not a water softener. I ended up having about a teaspoon or so of calcium come out in the flush water. I was surprised at the sandy consistency of the sediment considering the size of the pellets came out in my low point drain exercise a few weeks ago.

I just wanted to share my experience.

And a good share it is. I flush my HW heater tank after ever trip and now leave the tank empty during storage. After a trip to AZ and seeing how much deposits were in my tank on our return, I added a water softener which eliminated 90% of the deposits.

Well since we bought our 2000 Springdale and getting the water heater to work, it was obvious no maintenance was ever done, anode rode was 100% eaten away, element shot and a lot of mineral build up inside. I flushedout what i could, but i know there's still a lot in there ! The heater woulds fine now, but i realize i'm living on borrowed time till a new heater.

Thanks for the share!
Chuck,
Can you share more on what softener you used . how simple is the install. We have pretty hard water here, but I guess I had a false since of security with the filter. Thanks again!
