Hot water tank anode question...

I have a 2008 Surveyor with a Suburban 6 gal. water heater. I have a drain plug that is plastic where I think the anode should be but no anode. The parts list I have says anode 232767 in the approximate are of the plastic plug. I believe the only place the anode can go is where the plastic plug is. Would I be correct in assuming that or is there another anode port that I'm missing? Is possible the previous owner just ditched the anode and put in a plain plug?

Is your water heater gas, elec, or both. If it's gas only an anode may not be needed. Do you have the owners manual for the Suburban?

It is my understanding that Suburban HWH's do require an anode and the Atwood HWH's don't because the tank is made out of aluminum. If you install an anode in a tank that does not require them it will cause a mess.

It's best to consult the owners manual or a dealer that sells that type of heater. I did read that even if Atwood does not require the anode they can still be bought at places like CW. Some stores will sell you things that you may not need. There seems to be a lot of misinformation out there.

If your tank is aluminum even if it's made by Suburban it may not need an anode.

I believe its both. The manual says this tank is protected by a magnesium or aluminum anode to prolong the life of the tank....etc. and then I read further "tank is drained by removing anode rod...guess that answers my question...Thanks for prompting me to READ the manual instead of just looking at the diagrams... I'll be ordering an anode.
