We did the Smoky's last summer for a 2 week stay on both the northern side (Elkmont) and the Southern side (Smokemont) Even taking the RV up and over Newfound Gap is a good haul, but you shouldn't have a problem with a Expedition. With a 9k cap. getting into something at or around 7k dry should give you many options as far as tt.

We have a 6000 lb TT. Attempted with F 150 V 8- pulled ok but lagged and revved motor up and down gentle hills. Purchased F 250 diesel- now we load the camper and the truck and have no worries. In fact, we recently pulled the loaded camper with a bed load of green firewood. It was nice.

Those f250s are very nice. I have 4 kids so the expy was the only way to go.

Thanks, I am learning a lot about the anti-sway system. We are planning to purchase this coming spring and making our first major trip Disney or the smokey mountains.

Remember, as they grow, those 4 kids will never be less heavy than they are now. They may also want to bring a friend with them . I found as they got older their "toys" also got heavier and more numerous. think bikes,tents because they don't want to sleep in the trailer with Mom & Dad.
Plan ahead or you will soon find that your gvw has passed your gvwr and made the towing experience less than happy,happy,happy.

my local landscape supplier will weigh my rig for btwn 10 and 20 dollars. I weigh with the full road ready set up as follows-truck front axle, truck all 4 axles, then truck and trailer,,,go into back, drop trailer and then repeat with just the pickup. Just don't go when they are very busy

I purchased my WD hitch online once I knew what I needed. Saved $200 to $250.

Mossy Cat is that the 279 Kodiak ? I love that floorplan.

My Ram 1500 and your Expedition are close in pulling capabilities. We chose a 25 ft TT by R-Vision and are very happy with it. However, it is just the two of us. I think that we could carefully step up to a 27 to 29 ft unit for some additional space and still stay within the capabilities of the truck.

As far as a hitch is concerned, i went with a Hensley Arrow and am absolutely delighted with the performance. Zero sway, and it stops arrow straight even under the hardest conditions. New they are pretty spendy. But, if you look around you can pick up a used one for less than half price. I did purchase the lifetime warranty from Hensley, just in case. And, their customer service is exceptional.

Just some food for thought.
