"Does anyone think we would get a better deal at the original dealer we bought the TT at?" What has been your experience with that dealer? Were you treated fairly when you bought? Have they taken care of warranty issues promptly and courteously? Would you recommend them to someone else? If so, then I would certainly give them first chance at my business.

On the other hand, if they promised anything you wanted until they had a check in hand, and then ignored you, I wouldn't go back.

It's really not a good idea to tow a 5th of any size with a 1/2 ton. So you're looking at a different truck with a 5th wheel hitch. Add the loss in the Vibe and the cost of the 5th. If you buy new for $30K and sell for $20K then buy a new one for $30K you now have a $40K trailer. It's only money and you can't take it with you, so enjoy it if ya got it. Just remember, "things" won't make you happy.

At least two posters have mentioned the need for a truck upgrade--have you considered that also?

Yes sir, I have a complete seperate thread about upgrading to a 1 ton. I defintely want to be able to tow it. Thanks!

On a seperate note, I have found out they don't want to give me much, and don't take options into account.

So now we just are trying to decide if we want to bite the bullet now or later.

Thanks for everyone's input.

JMHO,, if you are really going to do it, then do it now while you have the income and the tax breaks if any will help. If these are going to be the ones that you use in your retirement and you are close to it you might as well enjoy them now also. What you have is not going up in value and new ones are not going down in cost. take a little time to sell private or walk away from the salesman first offers. You might even find a killer deal on used. Your bumper pull TT will be easier to sell that the big 5th you are looking for due to market size. Same with your truck. Like yourself, retireing people want to go out and get that big new truck and 5th. Then health or life changes and now what do ya do? So be careful and enjoy the hunt. Saving 10K on a lightly used 5th and another 10K on a truck is real money to be used for travel.

We just did the trade in..bought new in Sept but bought a unit that was 1) a 2015 not a 2016, 2) the price we payed was 18K, MSRP was 26+K. After three trips we took it in to be winterized. Never brought it home...why, you ask???? Cause we traded it in for a 2001 Newmar DSDP. We got 20K for the trade. So yes, we technically lost money (26K MSRP to 20K trade in), we didn't actually lose money (18k paid, 20K trade in).

We had been considering a 5th wheel but we didn't have the truck to tow it...and buying the truck to tow it was not an option. And now that we are in a Class A, I can't see going back to a towable.

However, if the deal had not been in our favor as far as trade in value, we would have stayed with our travel trailer. We could have easily said no thank you.
