How to remove awning?
Hi all,
I have a Dometic Catalina 2500 awning on my travel trailer that is attached to a "C" channel. I thought I could just slide the Awning out from the "C" channel to remove the awning, but it does not want to budge. Is there any tricks to get the awning off that someone can tell me?
thanks,
paul

Usually they put a screw through the "C" channel to prevent the awning from accidentally sliding out. When you remove the screw, sometimes it leaves sharp edges that need to get cleaned up before the awning will slide out.

I do not have a screw in the c channel. I get what you're saying. I'm going to try carefully whacking with a rubber mallet tonight to see it moves. maybe squirting some wd-40 in the channel too.

Use a dry lube instead of wd40. wd40 will collect grit and dirt. Something like a spray silicone will let it slide and not collect the dirt. The longer the awning, the more friction you will need to overcome. Once it does get going, it will go.

I'm talking about removing the whole unit, not just the fabric. There are lots of videos on how to remove the fabric, but not the unit. I might have to remove the screws that hold the C channel from the side of the TT to get the unit off.

Take a look. The first video I looked at they remove the awning from the arms. The DW and I removed ours. Good luck again.

I saw on another site that somebody took theirs off by grazing the corner of a KOA office as they drove by, seemed to do the trick.

In the same vein you could call my brother. He removed two awnings from his brand new 5th wheel by backing into his covered storage and hitting the post. Took about 15 seconds!
