K2500 w/1-ton chassis

Have had our 1995 Suburban K-2500, 4x4,7.4l almost since new. Upon doing some repairs in the past I found it is a 1-ton chassis, brakes, suspension etc. Have to buy parts for one ton. Does anyone out there know if this is normal or if we have a mutant? Would like to know so that I can figure my towing capacity.

All the HD model pickups are 1-ton chassis. The only difference is the 1-ton has the big block as standard and the 2500HD has the 6L as standard. The dually of course has the full floating rear axle , more offset in the rims, and front hubs to match.

That said, they didn't start 2500HDs until 2001. Maybe the suburbans have the bigger frame because the vehicle is heavy to start with and if they didn't go up a size there wouldn't be a lot of payload capacity left.

If by "one ton" you mean a K-3500 with single rear wheels (SRW), then that's reasonable. Ford F-250 and F-350 SRW have the same chassis but with a slightly heavier duty rear axle (differential) in the F-350 SRW. The discontinued Excursion SUV was basically an F-250 with a different body bolted on. So it wouldn't surprise me if GM didn't do the same thing.

BTW, my definition of "one ton" means if it's not a dually, it's not a one ton truck. A K-3500 SRW and F-350 SRW are glorified HD three-quarter ton trucks, not one tons.

Sticker on door frame with the weights is how you will determine how much you can tow.
You do not have a mutant, a lot of 3/4 tons used the heavy brakes and other suspension stuff.
