Has anyone had experience with the pros and cons of keyless door locks. I keep reading that there's only a limited number of locks and keys that RV manufacturers use making it easy for a thief to access your trailer. I asked about keyless locks at an RV dealership and was advised that there's a lot of problems with keyless lock systems. I would like to hear recommendations from the RV community.

I use a keyless lock on my rv, have not had problems. I did open and lube the lock once. We are full timers so it gets used everyday. Rvlock is what we have, same key I have for my keyless (backup) opens the new locks on my pass through compartment.

I've used locks from RVLock.com for 2+ years now as a fulltimer and they've been splendid. I'll not go back to regular locks! In fact, when I upgraded my rig back in March, part of the deal was that the dealer transferred the locks for me.

I have seen at least 30 threads over the past years about somebodies key fob, etc not working and they were locked out.

I have never seen a thread where somebody got robbed using a key to get in the RV.

My coach was broken into at a storage yard. Hammer through the door window.

We also have keyless locks, no issues after 18 mo. Once you have it you won’t go back to using a key. But, we do have a key hidden in a magnetized lock box under the trailer just in case.

We have had RVlock for a couple of years. Had one little problem and received excellent customer service. We do not use the fobs. Just the key pad. Have a spare key in the truck just in case something does happen.

We have been using the lock from rvlocks.com and have not had any issues. We have been using it for three years and replaced the batteries this year, simple. We have used the fob, push buttons and keys without any issues. Would repurchase. But it is more for convenience than security cause it is hard to break into an RV as we know.

About 14 years ago we bought DW a new car that used a fob. We got 2 keys and 2 fobs. Put one key on my ring, a key and fob on her ring. The other fob is in the trunk of car, for times she doesn't want to haul her bag. Put purse in trunk, grab fob. My point is I'm old school, keys have always worked for me.
Now I have no issues with somebody that wants to use a fob on their RV, as long as it doesn't need to honk every time the door locks!

A cop once told me that Toyota’s are very easy to steal because there are only @7 variations of keys. A thief has a 1 in 7 chance that the key in his hand will open the door. A better chance if he/she has multiple keys. I bet RVs have even fewer variations of the key, so no offense, if worrying about the fob or keyless entry will keep you up at night, maybe you should stay home.

Such a great response, our main reason for the keyless was not fear, but ease of locking. We were still working when we moved into the rv and my wife did not like using the key to lock and unlock. She was having to stand in the rain to do this. So I will not be sticking my head in the sand at home. But, thanks for the advice.
