My wife and I have been RVer's for years and are in the process of upgrading our camping trailer to a new Cougar 2015 1/2 ton series which we'll pick up next week. So I'm not getting cold feet, but I just talked to a fellow that bought a new one a couple months back and is not happy ( at all) with his purchase. Is there anyone out there with experience with Cougar 1/2 ton series travel trailers in the last 2 to 3 years that would share their view?

We are looking at a Keystone Outback and I have been researching and reading reviews and have found nothing remotely positive on their campers. I am very disappointed because we fell in love with it. Tonight I am looking for others who have had any positive experiences or who can help me move on past this interest. Hope you get the answers you want as well.

Unfortunately this is the not the answer we were hoping for.

We may be locked in at this point and will do a very thorough inspection before taking delivery.

The problem is that those few unhappy people are the only ones that take the time to go online to rant and complain about it. Those many that are happy don't bother going online to forums and tell everyone how great their RV is.

We owned the same Cougar floor plan, a 2007. We were very pleased with it and had no problems what so ever. We purchased it used. We thought we wanted a 5th wheel so we traded it for a new Keystone Copper Canyon, didn't have any problems with it either. We now own a 2012 Keystone Outback 277 RL. We use it about 27 weekends a year. We really like this camper, very comfortable. The only thing we have had to fix was the fridge, a bad wire that was a Dometic recall, not a keystone problem. I've owned 4 Keystones and enjoyed them all and have had very few minor problems with any of them. I don't think you can go wrong with the Cougar. Enjoy !!

We looked closely at the Western Cougars but ended up with another Western RV (Outdoors RV, Timber Ridge). We liked the Cougar floor plans and capabilities (tank sizes, road clearance, insulation).

Any trailer will have problems, and, these days, they will probably be posted on the Internet. Both our trailers have had issues but fundamentally they were sound. Once the problems have been fixed, they are great. That's the most important part.

Thanks to all that replied. We appreciate the input.
We are today cleaning out our old TT and tomorrow we bring home the new. We are a bit nervous now only because of what appears to be slow to non existent customer service from Keystone. We will inspect everything we can before closing the deal and hope for the best.
That said, we are very excited at the prospect of the new chapter in our camping life.

Someone posted an inspection check list on here. It's amazing. I downloaded it and have placed it in a file to use when we get ours. It's quite extensive but some of the stuff I never would have thought to even look at.

Go to keystones forum & copy their PDI (PRE DELIVERY INSPECTION) & Make the dealer go through every item on the list.
We purchased a 2014 XLITE Cougar RLS & Have had no major issues to speak of.
We have camped in ours for over 100 days in temp extremes of 100+ down to 20F & Enjoy our camper .
We Made a minor issue checklist ( windows leaking during driving rain ,black tank flush not working ,bathroom fan quit working ,
After the camping season we took it back to dealer & had all issues on checklist resolved within 2 weeks

Thanks for the advice. We took delivery of our new TT Friday and thus far have found it to be in nice shape. We did a fairly comprehensive inspection of all of the elements before writing the check. WE will do a shakedown trip in a couple weeks where we should test over some time the systems. Good luck to us.

Ps. We did buy the extended warranty through GoodSam, I almost never do this but it just seemed like a smart move in this case.

Thanks to all that commented. Just wanted to say that after our first week of use, we could not be happier with our decision. Everything worked great, the unit was very comfortable and we enjoyed it very much.

The folks at Camping World in ST. George, UT were easy to work with and have been very good at follow up.
