Hello i am son to be a camper.I live now in tampa and soon will be retiring from the fire dept.my son will be playing football next year at fsu on scholarship.my plan is to go to my sons practices and games and camp while im there to avoid all the frustration of staying in a hotel.i am looking for a lightweight camper in the 18 to 20ft range.any recommendations on which model to get would be appreciated.need one to sleep no more than 4. im looking at a 2008 Dutchman Cikira Classic Cruiser 18fb. .thank you Ron

Looks like a nice unit.

What are you planing on towing with for a truck.

And do you want to buy used or brand new.

When searching for a light weight built well tralier we went with a holiday rambler aluma lite 187qb fit all of our needs.

If you want a trailer that does not leak and will last years you might want to shop for a Bigfoot 21 rear bed, or a Bigfoot 25 rear queen. Look at FiberglassRV For Sale. You mentioned a Classic Cruiser which I think is what we call a stick built. Molded Fiberglass is more expensive and built better. Also look at a HR Alumscape 25ft 2001 to 2009. HOPE THIS HELPS.

Two other molded fiberglass trailers in that size range are from Escape - they make a 19' and a 21'. As said above, molded fiberglass trailers cost more than stick built, but hold their value and generally last longer. Since you're in Florida the Escape and Bigfoot trailers will be scarce since they are made on the West Coast, (in British Columbia). Escape Trailer Industries > Home

Were on our 2nd Aerolite (2005 & 2013 hybrids)....had about 380 nights in our 2005 over 7 seasons, sold it for $8500. Stuck with the Aerolite on 2nd one because the 05' held up so well camping OH, PA, VT and NY state parks...and we liked the layout of the new one.

Paid $16,500 for the 2013 (out the door). So that 2010 your looking at on EBay might go for 10k...Might want to contact the auction afterwards to see what they might want....

Escape's are made on the West Coast. They build a custom trailer to your needs. Check out the roof and look inside the cabinets for leaks. All stick built trailer leak, so be ware.

How cold of weather do you plan to camp. Most "Lite-weight" trailers are very poorly insulated and do not do well in the cold.

I would avoid the whole "light weight" topic because they are generally poorly made and go with a well made, small trailer.
The Winnebago Towable Minnies are excellent in the 18' range.

More important is, what is the tow vehicle?

Hey, this Flagstaff 2013 21FBRS Microlite is 3650 dry and 4500 gross . Its built solid, and are worth the look and see. Bad news is if you intend to tow any travel trailer go by the Gross weight. Also you better have a longer wheel base truck and a not a 6 banger SUV. We had a Pilot towing this trailer, and although we were rated to tow it we could not carry anything without going over. Gas mileage was 8 mpg. Kinda dangerous, and no comparison to my new tow vehicle F250 6.7 PS. My new TV is over kill I know but in a few years I will be buying a 32'-35' 5er.

I am considering this TT for purchase.It a 2010 Dutchmen Aerolite 19 ft.Barely used.Looking for any opinions on this rv.I live in fla. and plan on using it next year for trips up to tally.Most of our trips will be thru out Fla.I will be towing with a Dodge ram 1500.Thanks

I think you'll be fine with that unit. It'll do exactly what you need it to do, give you a place to take a nap, cook some burgers, tailgate, and watch your son's games. Just get yourself a good generator, lock it down in the truck bed and you'll be set for the hot weather.

Are you allowed to park that thing in the university parking lot during the games??? If not, i would look into getting a truck camper, you might have to trade for a 2500 or 3500 truck though.
