Bought a Honda EU 3000 today, awsome little unit. Does anybody have any sugestions on how to mount it to my rear bumper, any and all input is appreciated. It is going to drive me nuts waiting untill spring to play with my new toy.

Are you sure you can't mount it in front... in a storage place with ventilation ?

Mounting it on the bumper is not the best idea. Ask a dealer for suggestions.

Could you mount a receiver hitch,or have one made to fit your unit. Then one of them carrier baskets
(or whatever they are called) that fits in the receiver hitch.
As I recall, the Gen weighs around 140#'s.The basket if buy in aluminum is around 40#.The hitch
???? but maybe another 40#.So maybe 220 on the rear.If trailer is RK then maybe have to do some balancing with other cargo. But it seem doable.

Bearman I mounted mine on the deck of my truck right against the headache rack. You should have plenty room to mount it there as well. The bed of your truck will be about 7" lower than the deck of my truck. So it should have plenty room to go under the fiver overhang.

I ran a "Pigtail" from my breaker panel of four conductor #10 wire and put a fifty amp "Twist lock" connector on the pinbox. I put another "Twist lock" on the side of the fiver as well. This way you can hook up shore power from the pin box or from the side via the "Twist lock" connectors.

I have two power cords. One short one that has the right connector for the gen. And the other is a thirty foot cord that has the fifty amp "Plug in" campground connector. I keep them in the same place when not in use so as NOT to connect both at one time.

We run the gen. while traveling so the a\c will keep the trailer cool. Course we let the ref. run off elect. as well. Heck we are running the gen. anyway so......... And of course when we "Wal-Mart" it to get a few hours of sleep while traveling.

This works for us....

I built a mount and cover and mounted mine on the racecar trailer tongue area. The generator and cover are locked in place with three combination locks. Works great. I built another mount for the generator to sit on a cargo carrier that plugs into the receiver on the truck when we are not using the trailer. The cargo carrier also plugs into the back of the racecar trailer and is usually used to haul our bikes. The Honda DC generator is a nice piece.

I used my Honda EX4500 in the back of the truck for one season. At 300 lbs I don't move it only twice a year, in in the Spring, out in the fall. Decided to tow the boat behind my fiver. Had a custom made receiver hitch fabricated, had the cargo rack incorporated. It's bolted and welded. Due to length I couldn't use an extended reciever. Didn't get it installed until late last season, so only made two trips with this setup last year. Couldn't perceive any change in how the rig felt or handled yet. Before I'm done I'll hit the scales and get the fiver hitch weight where it ought to be. Aluminum rack might not be a bad idea for that 150 lb generator. I used iron, I'm totin alot more weight on my rack. I'm getting better at hitchin and unhitchin with each trip. My welder opted for strength rather than function so he arranged the angles down rather than up on the rack. This makes it more of a challenge to hitch back under the rack as the clearance is tighter. Wifey appreciates having the generator with the camper when I take off with the truck. She'll appreciate it more when I get the vibration totally dampened. I used half inch rubber matting that they use in horse trailers. Double thickness, but must have tightened the bolts too tight. Searching for auto body mounts, my next try. You'll need a travel cover to protect the generator from dust and mud that drafts behind the camper.

Cheers, Steve J.

Thanks, SageFisher@aol.com

I just put my gen. on the motorcycle trailer, I know thats not one of your options.

I have seen some people mount there gen. on the front of 5ths attached to the king pin box, so it sits out of the bed of the truck and out of the way. Granted that you must have clearance between the front of the trailer and the cab of the truck.

Sagebrush,

Look in a Graingers or McMaster Carr catalog and find electric motor mounts with the spring dampeners. I haven't tried it on a generator application, but it works well for our HVAC circulation motors that are mounted on wood floors or hung off of joists. I'll see if I can find a part# or page# when I get to work later.
