My a/c is acting up again. Two months ago had an a/c guy look at it, said someone had atached a saddle tap to the line. He loaded it with more freeon and 2 months later no more cool air. Worked for two trips out. Guess there is a leak.
Question? should this unit have been tapped? I have always heard that RV airconditioners are self contained and never need recharged!!Maybe this unit has now been compromised.
I guess I will call the same guy out and have him diagnose again. Would probably be easier to purchase a new unit. Best brand??

Like you said RV air conditioners are closed units. The only reason to add a saddle tap is if it was leaking and you wanted to repair it for a short time maybe to dump the coach without replacing the unit or possibly they thought they had fixed the leak. Probably time to replace it.

The saddle tap valve is a temp repair to gain access to the system. It is not a matter if if it will leak, it is when it will leak. They should have soldered in Schrader valves for a permanent repair. The saddle taps will continue to leak.
