I am a hiking nature freak and enjoy sauted shrooms but don't think it's good for them to grow INSIDE my trailer. It was right at the base of the slideout ! Noticed the wall to the right of slideout has a little buckling to it - thus I am assuming a leak somewhere which caused the dampness to grow my shroom!!! Then refrig stopped working!!!

OK just bought 2008 Keystone Hornet from a friend of friend of friend so no warranty. Trailer in all respects looked and smelled super clean - My question (finally) is this:
1) Once you get a leak I hear that's the end of the trailer?? This is a 2008 Keystone (I upgraded from a 1985 class c that never leaked) - what can I do to stop shrooms from growing?
2) If refrig needs replacement - would you recommend just replacing with Apt size refrig - or spending big bucks for new RV frig?
3) At what point do you worry that perhaps you bought a lemon?

A water leak is not the end of the world. It depends mostly on the location and the length of time it has leaked. It appears the leak is on the slide. If the slide was left out (especially with no topper), the leak is most likely with the interior seal, if left in, the exterior seal. This doesn't mean the leak isn't from the roof or a sidewall, just making it's way to were the shroom is. The main thing is get it fixed ASAP.

As far as the fridge, it can cost upwards of $1300 to replace it, vs a few hundred for an apt 110v. If you are always in a CG or have access to 110v, the apt fridge would work fine. You can always get the fridge cold before each trip and it should stay cold 8 hrs.

Of course if/when you dry camp, you're going to have to run a generator. Your call. Good luck on the leak!

Mushrooms= H20 and organic material. If they are growing out of the carpet Either the pad or carpet has organic material present. You have to find the water leak and stop the water intrusion. Once that's done there is no cure once they begin to grow other then to remove the organic material. because mold spoors are present. Generally you can pull up the carpet and pad and replace them. If its growing from the sub floor and the wood is not rotten then copper green can be applied to halt spoor production after it's had a chance to dry out.
Refers... The duel propane electrics units are hard to repair and expensive. Assuming you do not need the propane you certainly can put in a home refer from your favorite appliance center.I work at a large public university and we deal with facilities all the time and more specifically water leaks that in turn cause air quality issues. The only cure is to stop the water and clean up the organic materials that mold grows on. In carpeted offices it's usually the pad if the carpet is nylon or polyester.

You can cook up that shroom with some chopped onions in butter! Add some fake crab leg meats... delicious!

Found that the front window in the slide out was leaking - recaulked that - still a very small leak somewhere as there is still slight dampness in the corner of slide out (behind the couch). I have been using "Damp Rid" to help absorb the moisture - and haven't had another mushroom. Good luck!
