I hope you guys dont get too carried away on the new ford trucks.........I heard tht Ford is trying to bail on the Sick Litre and is really becoming hard to deal with on warranty repairs...basically walk away and cut the losses...If they go that route and come out with another new but unproven engine( 6.0L) all over again..they will do the same on it if it isnt profitable.. I have driven fords for 40 years..I cant believe the rumour, but Iknow they are nickel and diming the warranty...I would want to make sure they are standing behind their previous products before I bought a new one..

My hope is that they learned their lesson with the 6.0 and spent the time and money to get the new 6.4 right. If I had to buy a new truck right now, it woud be a GMC with Duramax/Allison. Luckily I have the proven and dependable 7.3 that has many more years in it. So I have time to see if Ford can get it right this time.

This is because Ford and GM are losing so much money (DC actually earned a few million last quarter, but they're still hurting), and a warranty dollar saved falls straight to the bottom line.

I'm not saying it's right - I'm just saying that's the way it is.

part that may be true
but al lare increasing displacement to make up for loss of power from the added emissison requirements, but the 6.4 is touted at 350 horsies
i hope they dont flubb it up

I won't buy a Ford truck simply because they call thier trucks '08's. They are not '08 if relaeased in '06, they are 06's.

Charlie,

Not to split hairs, but I don't think the "08" Fords will be available until 1/1/07 with the advent of the new diesel emissions regulations.

These new diesel regulations present a model year terminology problem for all the manufacturers. Dodge, for instance, will have 5.9L diesels in their HD pickups until 1/1/07 when the 6.7L and 6-speed automatic will debut. Now, will the later trucks be called 2008s or 2007.5 models - like the unofficial nomenclature of the 1998 Dodges when the switch from the 12 valve to the 24 valve Cummins took place? In Ford's case, they are introducing a new body and chassis along with a new engine, so it doesn't bother me that they, in effect, are starting the 2008 model year in January instead of in September. But then again, I bought my 2003 Acura 3.2TL-S on Memorial Day 2002.

Fortunately for me I also have a 7.3 with only 33K on it will do until Ford can show me the new 6.4 is trouble free. To much Bad press on the 6.0

I've been a Ford buyer all of my adult life but when it came time for a new truck I just couldn't bring myself to buy that 6.0. The 7.3 was awesome once you did a few "minor mods." Ended up with a new D/A. Wish I could get this engine and tranny in a new F450! It would be a done deal. The other thing is that Ford's pricing structure has gone from absurd to insane. All three are rips but Ford wanted almost 60K for one I was looking at.

I only have 18000 miles on mine now and love the way it pulls and runs. I think they have about worked out the bugs by now.
That 2008 is a hoss but I don't know that I want to go from a F-350 up to a F-450 when the F-350 is doing a real good job.

My `06 pulls like a rapped ape. No problems with it either.

Now don't get me wrong. i am not trying to start a brand war, just add my 2 cents. I had an `02 GMC D/A 3500. I bought a new trailer and it couldn't pull it (16K #) up hills. I believe it had to do more with the fact GM would only put 3:73 gears in. No option for a higher gear ratio (and I am anti after market mods). The D/A combination certainly was awesome. Just my trailer was too heavy for it.

The Ford TowBoss package handles it like it isn't even there. After seeing the new interior, I kinda wish could have waited. But I don't think I'm gonna run out and trade what I now have.

Sounds like Enron math. Sorry, but a vehicle made in January 2007 needs to be labled a 2007 model. Are they going to make these "2008" trucks for two years or will the 2009's come out in September 2007? I'll keep my 2002 for a few more years with it's proven 7.3 engine. I like the looks of the 02 interior better anyway, no so "robot looking"

When the current style of the Ford Superduty was first introduced to the market place in March 1998, they were labeled and sold as 1999 models. Undoubtedly, those first trucks sold in March '98 must have been built in February and perhaps a few in January of that year.

Perhaps they're doing something similar with the 2008 models?

In this case, the new body/chassis design coincides with the Tier III diesel engines that must be used on 1/1/07. With a new body, new chassis and new engine, I can understand why they would make an early model year introduction - other manufacturers have done it as well in the past.
