New Member w/ Battery Down!

hi there

new to TT and probably my fault here. brought my jayco home for first time and used the power jack to level when off the grid - not sure if this caused the battery to discharge

had battery on hookup to my garage for 3 days now. if i take it off the grid and test TT battery charge lights, it briefly lights and goes off. no other power/lights work. ok when connected back to garage

is this recoverable?
thanks for the help!

Welcome to the irv2 gang! I'm sure someone will respond to your question(s). There are a lot of helpful folks here; they've helped us a lot. We were new to this last year and are still learning. While you are waiting for a response, I'll offer a bit of information you may have found already,...but just in case not....you can try the "search" options found on just about any page. It's usually in the center right or upper right of the page. You can search the whole irv2 forums or search with a specific forum or topic. There are a lot of folks here that know about electrical stuff and I'm sure they'll help with their experiences and knowledge. Good luck!

The battery in your TT should have held up to many uses of the power jack.
If the connections on the battery are tight. JM2cW, you have a defective battery. Mark the cables + &- and remove the battery and carry it into an auto parts store , they will test it for free.
If you don't have a multi-meter in your tool kit , pick one up while your at the parts store. With a battery in place and hooked to shore power, the onboard, convertor/charger should show 13.8>14.2v when tested at the battery posts.
For other info, visit this site.

Glad to have you here with us. Skips advice on getting a multi-meter is a good idea it will come in handy for trouble shooting future elec. problems.

last time my battery drained like that I put on safety glasses, covered my skin in all areas and wore gloves. then I used a turkey baster and removed all the battery acid and disposed of properly. I then put fresh distilled water in the cells and swooshed it around then drained again. then filled each cell to the top and covered. I let stand for about 30 minutes and then charged for two days with my 6 amp battery charger and haven't had any issues since. Battery acid is very corrosive and dangerous so be sure you know what your doing before proceeding and take ALL precautions. Good Luck if you choose to try this. no guarantee it will work and make sure you do this outside in a safe area if you do.

Assuming it is a group 24 batt, plates covered w/distilled water, connections are tight, and it has been maintained properly you should get many hours of use across multiple days. Sounds like you have a problem. As mentioned, the auto parts store can load test it.

if the battery wont take a charge the local auto parts store will probably convince you to buy a new one. my suggestion is only to attempt to get it to hold a decent charge. of course its up to you.

Have checked to see if the battery is still covered undef warranty????
