Hi! We bought our trailer at the end of August last year and have only used it 2 times last fall--loved it! We stored it for the winter and have lots of fun trips planned this summer! My husband and I both grew up in families that had trailers and we wanted our daughter (12) to have the same great memories we do! I spent the day cleaning it today and when I was done and locking it up it was pouring rain and I must have turned the key too hard in the lock and now it is broken

. My hubby will try to fix it tomorrow--hoping he can! Any one else ever have the deadbolt freeze up?

First!

The locks are exposed to more rain, dust,etc than our house locks. This means we should use a lock lubricant more often. That said, now the issue is how to remove the broken key. Try to spray a lubricant(not WD40) into the lock to lubricate the tumblers before trying to remove the key. If the key is showing a little you may be able to grasp it with a needle-nose plier. If that doesn't work, a locksmith can remove the key-end.

Welcome to the forum! I just noticed your post in here and wanted to say hi and congrats on your new rig.

When you say the lock is now broken do you mean the key broke off inside of it?

Welcome to the forum. As was mentioned earlier if part of the key is sticking out, you many be able to grab it. If not, I would have a locksmith come out and remove it, probably cheaper than messing up the lock.

Thanks for your helpful ideas! The key was not broken inside the lock--the deadbolt just broke! We were unable to use it on our Memorial Day camping trip but we felt very safe in the park we were in. We will have to take the trailer to our dealership and see if it can be repaired.
