New truck .... New receiver size
I just purchased a Silverado 2500HD, I believe it has a 2-1/2" receiver. But my WD hitch works was for the Silverado 1500 (2" Reciever) that we previously owned. Is it ok to use an adapter sleeve or should I go purchase new WD hitch works? I am towing a Coleman Light 2405BH that has a dry weight of 7600lb.
Thanks in advance

If it's a 2 1/2" receiver, you'll find that Curt, Reese and Blue Ox all offer a reducer sleeve that will take it down to 2". I couldn't find any weight specs listed for them - in fact, they all look like the same physical product. Anyway, that sounds like a question for the manufacturer.
It's not an extender, so I don't see how weight would be a problem. If it were me, I'd be tempted to go for it!

When I searched around I didn't see any weight/tow ratings on the sleeves. So I thought it would be okay but wanted to see if anyone else had used this method. Thanks for the response.

You'll never have a problem with the adapter. If it would make you feel better have the sleeve tack welded into place to prevent any rattle you might develop.

Our 2011, f350 dually came with the reducer sleeve to allow the truck to pull standard 2" plus take a larger head when needed. Perfectly fine to use a reducer sleeve. Your 2500 is just capable of pulling a lot more weight and thus has a bigger hitch. I believe most dual rear wheeled trucks come the same way.

Not just dullies. My Ram 2500 came with the larger receiver and a sleeve also. Been pulling happily ever since.

We just bought a receiver too and a solid sleeve with hardly any drop down. It really lifted the TT up to where it should be. Before it was hanging a little too low.

Mine came with the truck. Hidden in some compartment. You can get them at Walmart. I think Reese is the brand at WM

New truck .... New receiver size
Thanks everyone, I purchase the truck used so the adapter was not in the truck. But I did find that this is very common when talking to local contractors & trailer dealers in town. Upon a suggestion from one of the I picked up a replacement at a local GM dealer for under $20.

Is it ok to use an adapter sleeve.....
There are two types of adapter sleeves.. One "Extends" the hitch, you need two pins, one for the adapter sleeve, one for the hitch adapter (The part that normally goes into the receiver) this is normally used when the receiver is TOO SMALL, however so likely does not apply
The other is an "insert" basically a bushing. You need only one pin it holds both the size adapter AND the hitch adapter.
No problems at all, it will not reduce your hitch rating (in fact the 2 1/2 inch receiver is likely stronger with or without the adapter, than the 2" "hitch Adapter" (tow bar or whatever). So yes it is safe to use a bushing type reducer.. It is basically 1/4" of steel, nothing more.
One caution: (Applies to all hitch adapter/receiver setups)
If you leave the adapter in the receiver all the time.. It may get stuck there.. Same for the hitch adapter in the adapter, Left in long enough it may get stuck
You need to remove it, brush it out and spray it with something like Silicon spray every once in a while. To prevent RUST.
