Oh what problems will arise
Hi all,
So here is the thing. Purchased a brand new Rockwood Roo 2019 back in Februrary here in Western NY. Picked it up from the dealer about a month ago. The trailer was winterized as you can see pink antifreeze in the bottom of sinks and shower floor. So i go out to the trailer yesterday just to open up the fresh water tank drain for the heck of it and out comes clear water. Probably for about 10 minutes. I would bet there was 20 gallons in there. Totally clear no pink. This stinks. Temps have been under 25 deg. For months and even lower for months. No doubt it would have froze and who knows how long it was at dealer this way. Could have been all winter. So dont see anything leaking but will see when i fill it to the full 53 gallons and start pumping water. Concerned if it did freeze maybe it fatigued the tank or something and could prematurely fail. I guess i will call the dealer tomorrow and let them know. Thx

Depends exactly what that valve drained. There are frequently fresh water tank drains and pow level drains. Perhaps in some models both maybe built into a single valve. The system may have been winterized with water left in the tank. Since there was plenty of expansion room in that tank its unlikely there was any tank damage even if the water froze solid. Before getting too concerned I'd hook up city water and then turn on a cold water sink facet and see if pink stuff comes out before it becomes clear. If so, thens not much to worry about. The system was protected. It is possible the dealer just put antifreeze on in the sink drains to protect the goose necks. If so you may have an issue with the dealer. Have you opened the drain on the water heater to see if water is still in there. A little water left in the heater would not be an issue like the fresh water tank. The heater should not be full of antifreeze. There's a winter bypass on the backside of most water heaters, or there should be.
There's a lots to learn about how the RV beast operates.
Get out there have fun and be safe....

Thanks for info, the hw tank is bypassed and the anode rod is out so no water in the tank. Also they didnt put the water filter in and the filter housing has no water in it either. There was antifreeze in the faucets cause i opened them ans some is dripping out. Hopefully i will be good to go. Just didnt expect to see straight water in there.

Just for the record. Your holding tank should be emptied, but you should never put antifreeze in it. It will become extremely hard to get the taste of it out of the tank, short of multiple flushes with lots of water.
Your tank does have room for expansion so there is most likely no damage.

THIS^^^^^^
Sounds like dealer winterized everything else...just forgot to drain fresh water tank
IF tank had been damaged...very slim chance ------it would have leaked
Just to document incident......
Send e-mail to Dealer and detail what you found and that you are 'concerned' about possible damage from 'dealers' oversight.
Request a response back
Then IF you have an issue with fresh water tank....you have paper trail about it.

FYI - you can put a water bottle in the freezer and freeze the water solid without any damage to the water bottle. Don't ask me how it does not damage the bottle but it doesn't.

It does release more chemicals from the plastic bottle so you should avoid doing that.

You can put water in lots of things and freeze them with little or no damage. You can also put water in a steel pipe, cap the ends, and cover with dry ice. Step back because it will burst suddenly and violently.
Water expands about 10% as it freezes. In a rigid confined space, it will find a way out. In the PECs tubing probably used in your TT or RV, nothing will happen. It stretches enough without damage. In your toilet valve, sink valves, and water pump pressure chambers the ice is more likely to burst the confined space. Check valves, and fittings are also vulnerable.
Do you feel lucky?
