Ok so is this crazy

We are buying a new travel trailer, probably the Keystone Outback 292h but our dealer has an Open Range 5th Wheel. It is a Light lf305bhs. We love it and it has an outdoor kitchen. I have not been able to find a travel trailer that is fiberglass with over 40 gray water, less than 33 feet with a true outdoor kitchen. Right on the fifth wheel it say half ton towable. We have a 2009 Toyota tundra crewmax 4wd. Of course dealer says perfect fit but I am not so sure about that when I look at he payload. I dont want to have to be concerned about items we bring. The open range has a weight of 7940 and hitch weight1400.

What's the payload of the truck and the pin weight of the 5er? Not a lot of 1/2 truck really capable of towing a 5th wheel. Check out the 5th wheel section o this forum for a huge discussion of this very topic.

We towed a 7000 lb 27' TT with an '04 Toyota Tundra -- smaller engine than yours, I believe. The truck was overloaded and we upgraded to a Dodge RAM 3500... It towed okay in the flats but could not handle going uphill... I know this isn't apples-to-apples...

Payload is 1615. Is pin weight same as hitch weight?

Payload - (people + cargo) = available for tongue/5th. Most likely not going to work. There are some 1/2 tons with 2500 payload that'll work, they are usually the HD versions.

According to Edmunds.com those maximum payload (1615 lb) and tow ratings can be achieved "When adequately equipped, which may require engine and/or other drivetrain upgrades." You might want to talk to Toyota to see if you would need to make some changes to the Tundra.
