Peeling Decals

Since 'search' isn't working for me, I'll try a new thread. I know why decals turn up at the edges, I'd like to know how to stop it or minimize further damage.

But the true travelers are they who leave for leaving’s sake
Saying continuously, without knowing why: ‘Let us go on’.

The short answer is that I don't think you can stop this once it starts.

We trimmed off the peeling/curling decal edges CAREFULLY with an exacto knife for about 2 years, and were careful not to use any cleaners that would further loosen the vinyl or adhesive (absolutely NO wax or wax-containing products).

However, all that really did was buy us more time until we had to replace all of them (which we just finished doing this weekend - a royal pain but the end result was worth it).

We make decals for a living and the main reason why the decals are peeling is poor quality of the material used and or lack of uv protectant. ALOT of people out there are making decals and not using the correct material.

1. If the decal is printed it is only rated for 3-5 years of outdoor exposure on a vertical application this means say it was on a hood of a truck or on the front of a camper where the angle is different it will NOT last as long.

2. Non printed decals/striping are rated for 5-7 years of outdoor exposure.
same deal it depends on the location

I have seen decals peel and get funky from simple reflection of the sun off of a mirror we suggest 303 protectant on all of our wraps and printed decals to give it some protection we also give no warranty as to how long anything will last because not everyone takes care of there stuff the same.

My suggestion to your problem and we have seen alot of this with campers at campgrounds would be to keep triming it back but make sure not to cut to deep or simply remove the entire decal and replace it or keep it plain.

Ditto with trimming them....We did the same thing with our older Newmar for a number of years.

Peal them off and using automotive paints paint on new ones. Last nearly for ever and a darn sight cheaper than new decals.
