I was in the same boat. I'm new too. My vote was to go with the 20lb powertank. Can't get any easier to use. It is lightweight. It will run an air wrench, nailer, etc. and airs up my F250's tires 37x13.5 (65psi) and trailer tires (80psi) in seconds. It's not cheap, but the good electric compressors aren't either. plus, they are so slow and noisy.

The first time you need to put air in one of your tires at a gas station, you'll run and buy the very first compressor you can find. We have the Porter Cable 110 volt model - IMO the best buy around. The advise on the 12 volt direct battery connect is solid. The decision comes down to 12 volt or 110. But do you need one - you betcha.

Another vote for the Viair 450 RV.---mainly wanted for duallys

I had three problems this compressor solved for me.

1-Need to air up every trip when going north due to substantial change in temps.
2-Small package (ie, didnt want to dedicate space to a pancake compressor)
3-I wanted to fill my dually tires without taking the hubcaps (wheel covers) off to access the valves.

Any $30 compressor can satisfy #1 & #2 above.

Warning--The Viair 450 (lower cost) can meet all three BUT has to be moving air all the time which means you have to have a separate air pump and gauge.

The 450 RV has the automatic shutoff so it doesn't burn up. It also has 2 very long coiled hoses that reach all the way back to my trailer tires from the truck battery.

While the compressor has all sorts of attachments, I prefer to use my milton inflator gauge to fill and check in one action per tire (10 tires takes some time...)

While the compressor is a bit pricey, it solves all three of my problems gracefully.

Dustyone thanks for the info. I looked on the Walmart site and couldn't find this unit, can you give me a little more information, it looks like something I could use.

I have to agree with the above statement. I needed to put air in one of my RV tires and I bought a Battery Jumper and it was also supposed to be a 120v power supply that had an Air Compressor in it. I used it once and it didn't even work well airing up bicycle tires. I would say either get the Viair Unit or a Porter Cable 120v 150lbs Compressor.

Sears sells one with the Craftsman name on it. At least they did last year. but with them closing stores all of the country maybe not.
Good Luck
