I’ve just purchased a 1984 30’ Shasta. Everything works besides the hot water heater and was wondering best recommendation for a portable hot water heater? Thanks

Electric or propane?
Probably just around the same cost to replace your heater you have if it is not repairable. They have not changed much over the years.

You can get a tankless wh but I haven't heard of anyone having satisfactory results with them especially based on the price. They are still very proud of them.

I've seen people get small home type wh and set them outside on the ground. Not really a very good workable setup.

Have you considered fixing the wh you have? There's not much to them. Is your gas or gas/electric? Also what brand is it? With some info we may be able to talk you thru it. All the parts are available online.

We bought one of these manymany moons ago. Used it several times tent camping and it worked well. Hot water on tap is easy to take for granted. Hasn't been used is a few years though. Like others I would recommend investigating the issue with the water heater in place before I spent any money to buy a temporary solution.

I have a portable, tankless, propane, water heater on my boat. Its called EcoTemp, maybe. Its designed to hang on a wall or fence, with a shower head, but I plumbed it into the water system and propane line behind the stove.

Had it for 10 years of 1/2 year, seasonal living aboard and its still working fine.

Once the flow and temp is set, you just open the hot faucet all the way and you have hot water for shower or washing dishs.
If you try to adjust the temp by adding cold, then all bets are off. The change in flow can shut down the flame and chill you real quick. We knew when to change the water filter because the water would get hotter, from the lower flow.
