Dont own a powerstroke, but I use synth all the time in everything but the lawnmowers. Mobile 20w-50 in Summer, 0w-40 in winter for the Audi 2.8, Dodge 318, and Ford 460.

I highly recommend using synthetic oil in your 6.0, it will definately make the injectors last longer. I have had good luck with the rotella in the blue jug.

I have a 2006 f 250 6.0, best advice, just change the oil every 3,000miles. the way the oil system is plumbed, dirty crankcase oil goes to the injectors before it reaches the oil filter.

I don't think there is much difference in Mobil Delvac, Chevron Delo, or Shell Rotella dino oil. I am currently running Mobil Delvac 15W40 in my 09 6.4 only because it was cheaper than all others. I currently get a consistent read of 12.3 MPG on the cab meter. I added Diesel Kleen and it now fluctuates between 12.4 and 12.5. I am going to move to the Shell T6 synthetic 5W40 to see if I can't get a little better MPG, and only because I have a long trip coming up and want to maximize MPG.

That being said, I am on my second diesel, former a 06 Dodge 5.9 HO Cummins, and have run both dino and synthetic. My opinion, and this has no scientific data to back this up, but only common sense, is that it is better to use a dino oil and change more often than a synthetic and use extended drain intervals (without fancy add on filters, oil analysis, etc.).

You can probably save a lot of $$ by changing every 5K with dino vs. 7.5K with synthetic. This is probably more important with my truck and it's regen sometimes adding fuel to the crankcase oil, which pretty much dictates 5K oil changes synth or not. So I think I will continue to use dino oil and change more frequently.

Thumbs up

I don't have a 6.0 but I have a 7.3 and all I have ever used in it is Shell Rotela, and after 150,000 plus miles I have not had any oil related problems.

Love the Mobil 1. Engine runs cooler and I went to an oil analysis program. I'm driving 10,000 miles, 3,000 to go, and I'll pull another sample for analysis to see if I need a change or not. The unit wasn't cheap, but I do rack up the miles. Have never used Rotella so I can't help you there.

Most of the folks I trust regarding oil issues recommend synthetic oil for the 6.0. The injectors have a problem with "stiction" in cold weather, which seems to be helped by the use of synthetic lubes.

I use Mobil1 synthetic 5w40 for Turbo Diesel trucks. I have switched between that and Rotella T6. Mobil1 seems to quiet the engine more, and its response is better overall with the mobil1 oil. I buy the rotella only when wally world is out of mobil1.
