In our new travel trailer, we have a Magic Chef stove and oven. While camping last weekend, we tried to light the oven in order to bake biscuits. This was the first attempt to use the oven. I could not get the pilot to light. I would hate to bring in the trailer for something that turns out to be very minor, especially with gas prices today. I am asking if anyone can offer any tips as to what is wrong with the oven. The stove works fine but the pilot on the oven will not light and subsequently the burner itself. Any suggestions?

The dealer should have covered the basics with you upon delivery. However I have to ask the basics. Did you turn the oven knob to pilot? And did you push the knob in while holding a match to the pilot? Do you have gas? And lastly, did you purge the gas lines by lighting one of the top burners for a few minutes first? It can take several minutes to get them to light some times.

Well, I knew it may be something simple. To be honest, the oven was very low on my list of priorities while doing the pre-delivery inspection. I figured that I knew how to operate that after having three previous trailers. I do have gas and I did turn the oven knob to pilot. I did not, however, push the knob in while holding the match. I did not realize this was necessary. None of my previous trailers required that but the stoves in those were all a different brand. I will try this and see if it works. Thanks for the quick response.

Well, I really do feel like an idiot. Holding in the knob worked like a charm. Oven is working great. I do not know how I missed this during walk-thru. Thanks for the help!
