I recently severed my receiver cord ( 7 wire) We spliced it back together( using a good brand of connectors).It works fine for the running lights,but the turn signals and brake lights don`t work.I have checked all the wiring and did n`t see anything wrong.Could it be a fuse, either on the truck or trailer?If so,,,where to look?BTW,,,they did work before I cut them....Thanks for any help.

Been there done that!!! I had a neighbor that is as electrician splice mine back and everything worked. Don't know if it may be a fuse, but need to check all in TT and truck. Don't forget the ones under the truck hood. Good luck.

This may sound too obvious, but have you checked the bulbs? brake/turn and tail lights are seperate fillaments in the same bulb and can therefore burn out without affecting each other. Another thing to check is the connection inside the TT plug (you did not mention how the cord was severed) it is possible that a good yank could have either broken the wire or pulled it out of the connector. If you have done that and the bulbs and connector are good then it is time to break out the voltmeter to find out where you are losing power. I would start at the vehicle plug - Turn on the 4 ways (make sure that the lights on the vehicle are working) then place the neg lead on a good chassis ground and probe the connector for the rt and lt turn signals (with the 4 ways on both are active) your meter should bounce between 0 and 12V (this is where either an analog meter or a digital one with a bargraph is nice). With any luck you will have power at the connector. If not then start working backward - look for inline fuses esp if the wiring is not factory. Now if you do have power, then plug in the TT connector and move back to your splices and test again - if your meter has insulation piercing probes then it is easy to probe the wire just before your splices - if not then you might have to cut off your splices.

because of the headache involved with splices. I would replace the cable back to the junction box on the trailer. my last trailer had a spliced cable and I had nothing but trouble, finaly replaced cable at the junction box and problem solved.

It's very possible when the wire was cut it shorted and blew a fuse.

thanks for all the replies....just for information....The last reply was was the problem....It shorted and blew three ( 10 amp) fuses on the truck...Think the only reason it only blew three,,,was because it only severed 5 of the 7 cords...I cut and spliced the other two,but the cord at that time was already,disconnected.The reason I didn`t think it was the splice,was because the running lights still worked....Thanks again for the replies...they were all welcomed....
