rechargable 12V air compressors
Hi All,
Wondering if anybody has or uses those 12V air compressors? If so, what is the bad on them? Are they worth the $$ spent to get them, and do they really fill a tire to the rated 112psi? Would they fill multiple tires?
Saw one in a flyer that I got and am wondering, thinking worst case situtation possible, ie, many tires with low pressure and needing to be filled. I know that that situtation should never occur, but you never know!
TIA
Taz

I'd be looking at the high end Viairs People say they really work, even up to a high pressure. I don't own one, so investigate further, but at least this gets you a path.

None of the small air compressors have the ability that I'm aware of... of a 100% duty cycle... that means constant running... and frankly that's what you'd need to do for one of these small compressors to inflate a trailer, or vehicle tire... I have purchased a Craftsman 120Vac compressor that is able to do this... and both my truck, (Ram 3500) and my RV have a 1500 watt inverter that will when needed run this compressor full time... That's how I've solved the problem...

The Viair 450 is rated at a 100 % duty cycle.

I have never found a RECHARGEABLE air compressor up to the task.....the air compressor seems to be added as an afterthought to those portable jump starter power packs.
That being said..... There are several that are serious tools....with a price to match.

I have a Viair 300P. It's only rated for 33% duty cycle, but it works perfectly for my application: 80 psi tires, either filling one from "empty" or making pressure changes in several tires.
If I needed 110+ psi, I would use a Viair 450P. Even my little 300P is fast & amazingly quiet. With the high current draw and fill time needed to fill large high pressure tires, I would never consider a compressor with an onboard battery.
I don't see any real point to a rechargeable compressor when a high-current DC compressor (like Viairs etc.) is almost always is used to fill tires on a vehicle with its own large rechargeable battery.

When I first started in the RV world I had a 125 lb tank that I filled up at home and took on the road. This was cumbersome and tended to leak so when needed I got about half a tire filled. I got smart and went to HF and bought a Viair 300P look a like for 29 bux. works great and never had an issue with it yet. 12volt and plugs into my car or to my battery jumper.

I have this model and it has no problem pumping my tires up to the 50 psi mark. It may not be able to pump all 4 tires from flat to full at the same time, but then again, if I'm having to do that I have bigger problems.
