Replace or Upgrade Water Heater

Does anyone know if the 6 gallon can be replaced with a ten gallon without changing the opening? plug and play?

You would have to stay with the same opening diameter and hopefully have enough backspacing for the increased tank length. Plug around the atwood and suburban websites for dimensions based upon whichever model you currently have. Keep in mind all the plumbing at the rear would move back as well, including the bypass loop, and of course, any wiring.

What model do you have now?
Most likely, the opening will need to be widened.

For what it's worth, we have a 6 gallon Atwood, and never have issues with cold showers. With both gas and electric running it can replenish the hot water before the next showers while the first person is drying off and getting dressed/ready. Maybe just replacing your unit with a newer 6 gallon model would save some headaches.

The RV/TT were looking at has the 6 gallon with LP and Electric options. I have read a lot of stories about showers being too short but if you have both options on and it gives you a normal shower time it should be ok. The one were looking at is a Z-1 something and has an Atwood 6 gallon DSI with elec/LP. from what I can see there is a board that comes off in the back storage area which would allow more depth to the WH so aside from rerouting the pipes it should be bale to accept a longer WH.
