Rubber Roof Washing
Hello All
Are the premixed roof washes/conditioners worth it, or is there a home made version that works ???

There are many different roof washes available. I just use dish washing detergent and a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser mop on my rubber roof. My 2000 Dutch Star roof looks like new.

We use powdered clothes detergent with bleach. About a scoop in a five gallon bucket, soft brush, and garden hose with sprayer. Just soapy water and scrubbing is what you need.
THEN you do need to get a treatment for rubber roofs.

A couple things that EPDM and TPO roof material supplies have in common ...
1. Wash regularly
2. Don't use any products containing petroleum distillates on the roof. It will cause damage.
3. They don't recommend any rubber roof treatments or conditioners.
Since they don't recommend them, and still warranty the membrane for 10-12 years I follow their advice. I wash my roof each time I was my trailer and use a soft brush and Meguire's Deep Crystal Car Wash soap. It has no distillates and has been doing a good job for me the past 4 years.
Spic-N-Span is called out by name by one membrane vendor too. My FIL uses that and is happy, I haven't tried it yet.

Well, untill i can find some Spic & Span, i'm going to use some Oxi-Clean powder i have that i use to clean home brew beer bottles, fiquired it can't hurt.

A friend bought a used unit 5 years old. He never checked the roof till 3 months later.
He found the roof was turning black and was totally done.
He asked what caused it. I answered that it wash some roof cleaner like we see all over that park cleaning roofs for a fee.
They do a perfect job using all sorts of chemical to leave a white roof.
No thanks I do my own roof and for 22 years used only Dawn dish washing soap.
Our previous unit was 15 years old and the rubber roof was still perfect with never anything put on it. If it is not perfectly white, who cares it usually eventually washes off some time.

The only thing I found that's works on my rubber roof is Oxy Clean. The hotter the better. Just have somebody spraying the walls down while your doing it. It will dull the wax.

Good article but I noticed that it was written by the Dicor Corp who makes the protectant that they recommend at the end of the article. Conflict of interest?

Anyone use Awesome,everyone raves about it, and very inexpensive ????? Seem like with the rite dilution rate, it does everything. Just want to be sure sure it not harmfull ???

We've used Murphy's Oil Soap. It's very gentle and cleans well. We do the awning and the roof with it. If you are using something that "bleaches" the roof, it might be doing damage.

Dishing washing soap is a grease cutter and it will also will remove the wax from your rv.
