Satellite radio antenna mounting

Just got a sirius radio for both home and motorcycle. Where is everyone mounting their home antennas when using it in their rigs? How do you get it outside? Through a window or a vent?

My trailer has an antenna already installed so can't help you . However after reading several posts and if you want a permanent mounting I would suggest that you find a place to snake the wire down from the roof and into the place where you will have the radio installed and mount it permanently. If you have one of the magnetic mount antenna's the easiest is to get a piece of sheet metal, and secure it to the roof and drop the antenna onto the plate. Personally if you do not want to screw it in place a generous amount of dicor lap seal will hold it for ever in anyplace you choose.

If you were talking about a permanent mount and didn't want to put a hole in the roof, a lot of folks run wires for solar down the fridge vent.

If you do screw metal down to the roof, make sure it has some sort of rust proofing, and I'd put vinyl tape between it and the roof, then put Dicor lap sealant over the edges and screw tops.

I have XM and the antenna works just sitting next to the radio inside.
I use the an old XM rodie 2 in the car, truck, jeep, boat, and trailer. Just move it to where ever I am.
I bought extra power cords and antennas for the vehicles, but the boat and camp trailer have not mounted antenna yet, and really see no need to.

My SAT radio is located in a slide out, so I just fished the antenna wire through the
slide out seals. Put the antenna on the roof, set in some dircor lap seal.

My slide outs have the double seals, so no air or water leakage. No problem running
the slide out either in or out.

Mine works just setting inside. I have been in some campground where it would go in and out when I walked by it. I used velcro on the base a mounted it outside one of my windows at one site I remember. A permanant roof mount would be nice.

I used a mirror mount, and mounted that to the rear ladder, then the antenna to that, then thru the vent, using a wire fish from the vent to the radio.

I mounted mine on the roof by the regular radio antenna and then unscrewed the antenna mount and ran the wire down the same way they did. So it would drop down I tied 2 fishing weight to the end and then fished it out next to the entertainment center. To hold it on the roof I used a square of repair patch for a rubber roof. Been up there for 3+ years.
