For the uninformed the news article had the owners wife saying it was started by an ELECTRIC short. So much for the fridge and propane paranoia.

Seeing how hastily some of these units are assembled, one misplaced staple/screw could do a LOT of damage later ...

Dude I would have just disconnected and taken the bed damage just to save the truck.

I don't know about the rest of you but I always run the fridge when traveling. That's part of the reason for buying the darn thing. I don't want to have to go and buy groceries after I get to camp and plug in.

Not only that, it takes hours for an absorption refrigerator to become cold enough to use when first started. Unless you have some other means of keeping your food cold until the refrigerator's ready, spoilage could occur and any frozen items would be partially, if not fully, defrosted.

I always carry a cooler in the truck when camping, even if just to hold the cold/frozen food while driving back to the campsite from the store.

I posted these pics before but here they are again. This was caused by the middle right tire going flat and catching fire. I stopped to help out but my three extinguishers and three others did not help. This was in April on I95.

I now carry a large foam extinguishers specifically for tire fires.

We were able to save the guy's truck.
