Support Assembly Replacement

We have a 2012 Dutchmen Denali travel trailer. I has a window in front with a hinged cover than can be lifted when we are parked. The cover is supported by a sliding support assembly, and is held in the extended position with a wing nut.
While the cover was up and we were away from the trailer a wind storm came along and severely bent the support assemblies so that they will not retract and I had to remove them.
My local RV parts person said that I would need to purchase the cover along with the support assemblies. I don't know how much that is, but I'm sure it is more than just the supports if I can find them, or make them.
Any suggestions?

Without seeing them and knowing if they are aluminium or steel, is it possible to take them off and straighten them or are they broke?

If the later, my next move would be to find a metal working shop and see if they can fix or replace them cheaper than a whole new unit.

Since you only need to lock the cover while traveling and prop up when parked, there may be an alternate method you or they could make to satisfy this. Using 2 gas springs is coming to mind here.

Thanks Clyon51.......the gas springs is a good idea. I also thought about a piece of aluminum channel........or even the tent poles that telescope.

It's a 2012, did you try calling dutchman to see how much a replacement would cost? I would start there. Adding a gas strut wouldn't hurt either.

Check Rockler.com. They are a woodworking place but have a nice assortment of lid supports. You could either get it on line or check out their store in Seattle.

Thanks again for your input.
Dutchmen was no help at all.
But I was pointed to an outfit that makes window covers aka rockguards....All-Rite Rockguards. One can purchase the telescoping support brackets there without having to purchase the cover. They were nice, and helpful........did I mention unlike Dutchmen.

Happy Camping
