ON the PPLmotorhomes Web Page, they have a 110v 30amp surge protector on sale until Friday, 7/22 from 110.00 to 90.00 If you look at ploiselle on Product Evaluations forum you can link up to it. Is this a good deal or can i do better? I have been looking around and I am not sure if this is what I want/need...

Haven't seen it but does it have a ground connection? If not, where's the surge going to go? Also consider, a real surge rarely hurts anything. It's the low voltages that get you the most. I've seen a device before that can boost power down to a certain low voltage situation, but it shuts off after a certain low happens, plus it shut off after a certain high voltage is reached. You might cover more with something like this. It's in a cataloge i have at home.

First off I don't know anything about that brand of surge protector, sorry, but I have seen several trailers with all the electronics, including microwaves, furnaces and refers, destroyed by a "surge". I was working a rodeo one year and a lightning bolt struck the ground a thousand or so yards away, 3 rigs lost all the electronics including the fuse panel and converter. There was another time that someone vandalized a substation (threw a long chain into the transformer), took out hundreds of homes, many lost tv's microwaves etc... Now I'll say that I don't have one personally but have been thinking about it for awhile. $90 vs couple thou?? Makes sense. JMHO John

How often is lightning going to strike? I wouldn't go on those statistics. Also, how many campgrounds do you go to that would have someone tossing a chain onto a transformer? I think the cases mentioned above are very isolated.
