The mega hitch basket

Hey guys, new here and I wanted to share my latest project. Maybe it will give someone some ideas if they are looking to do the same. With two small children I was running out of room to bring some of the bigger items camping especially when we have the dirtbikes taking up most of the room in back of the truck. My first thought was to buy a hitch basket and make an adapter for the existing bumper. I soon realized that no hitch basket i could find was upto the task, and quite frankly neither was the bumper on the trailer. Since fabrication is a passion of mine i figured Id just make one.

i basically welded 2 receiver tubed to the bottom of each frame rail and built the rest to slide right in. It takes two people to put it on but it will live on the trailer 99% of the time.

Used some old washers and vertical mill to make my tie down points

Used some LED lights because the lights on the trailer are often covered. Tapped into the wiring harness for the trailer and used another 4 pin connecter for the basket.

Ive got a few more pics to post that I dont have on the internet yet, if anyone wants a specific pic of anything just let me know.

Very nice.
Like the way it slides into box tubing mounted under the frame.
But then is levered up so it won't drag.
Use hitch pins to hold it in place?

Yea basically, I ordered some nice ball detent pins so i wouldnt have to fuss with clips. Even made a quickie cable tether so i wouldnt loose them. I also cut and graphed the rub bar to to the reciever tube.

Very nice!
I need a setup like that.
Any idea on safe carrying capacity?
Any concerns with reduced hitch weight when that thing is loaded up?

Considering the weight capacities of the ones Ive seen online that you can buy this thing can probably handle more then I would ever put on it. Most of the time it will just have all the large kids toys and firewood. I did design it to handle a full sized dirtbike which at the very most will be a combined weight of 350lbs. Im not concerned at all about unloading that hitch since the travel trailer is 29ft long. At the most I may go up a chain link on the WD hitch.
