These WDH bars are a mile away

The ground is fairly level not perfect. It’s either that or I am doing something very wrong. I’m just playing around trying to get it “close” for the tow home at the end of the season and it’s not even close at this point. No way am I getting those connected. I followed the instructions I believe. Is this typical? I’ve jacked up the rear of the vehicle a pile. I have the recommended starting point of 6 washers for this hitch.

You need to loosen the bolts on the hitch head and adjust the angle. The ball is leaning down to much.

I’m at the recommended starting point of 6 washers. At the worst it should still be connectable just to much distribution?

Was there a recommended start height to the top of the ball in the instructions .

Seems to me that the top of the ball should be way lower than it is .
The trailer front jack appears to be fully extended to reach the top of the ball.

I've never set up a WDH assembly from scratch ; only used one that was assembled , but I think the , trailer frame should be level to measure the hitch height at the tongue and the ball height adjusted to that measurement.

What brand is the WDH ?
Maybe I can pull up instructions online.

From another thread, it looks like he's using a Fastway E2 with the round bars...

Typically you measure the height of the trailer coupler when the trailer is level on flat ground, then set the ball height 1-2 inches higher than that dimension.
You may have to set more blocks under the trainer jack to allow more elevation after the trailer is connected. This elevation allows you to lift the bars onto the brackets.

@Skip426 the jack is lifting the the truck and trailer so I can try to get the bars on it’s not that high sitting level disconnected. I got 24 1/4 hitch ball height from Jayco. The height of the hitch head is set 25 1/4”

@Shane_the_ee no the plates are installed correctly. If I flip them they will even be higher.

@lj61673 I will try more blocks it’s just seems like a long way to go. Just taking a break now.

Yes it is a Fastway E2

It’s hard to tell but I am also now seeing that the ground under front of the truck looks to be higher then the rear probably making things worse.

I agree with Skip

I am no trailer WD expert, but just looking at the picture i can see that the ball is tilting downward and should be level.

What are those 6 washers you are talking about, is it pertaining to the level of the ball.

If that ball was level then the WD bars would attatch.

24 1/4 " sounds way high .
If the trailer tongue is at that height is the frame level to the ground ?

Yes for sure removing washers getting the head more level would help in connecting but I was trying to go by their instructions. Unless they have an error in the instructions and six washers is to much.

After watching the video on your hitch

Your BALL is pointing down.

Look at my yellow arrow, you can see that the hole where the bolt goes through is oval.

Loosen the 2 bolts and push your ball up then retighten.

I would need to remove washers. If it’s the video I watched also, he was using 4 washers as he had a light trailer and what looked to be a 3/4 ton. That’s why the ball was level. I have a heavier trailer and a 1/2t. I would worry I am not getting enough distribution. Saying that I will get 0 if I can’t get it connected lol.

You need to put more blocks under the jack and lift higher. At 6 washers you may need to nearly lift the truck wheels off the ground to get them attached with the angle the truck is at.

Level the head. The ball is tilted too far back.
