Most people switch from travel trailer to fifth wheel ... I am thinking of doing the opposite. I have never towed a travel trailer so I have nothing to compare to. Looking for some thoughts or opinions??

Hmm well the tt is smaller, easy to back...... what about the 5th do you Think you want to change?

We started with a TT, tried a fifth wheel, went back to a TT, mostly so I can put the motorcycle in the truck, not to fond of toy haulers. For me, I find it easier to back the TT, I can control it better than a 5er,doesn't turn as fast. We have a Winnebago 30RE,which is a about 34 ft. long and have no problems towing at all, just have to give a little more room in the turns.

I don't know that I want to necessarily change anything with the fifth wheel ... kinda want the bed of my truck for storage and possibly a golf cart. I also am not a toy hauler guy at least not right now with the kids.

Fifth wheel has more trailer storage but tt gives the ability to carry larger items in the tv. A tt is usually all one level. Similar size units the tt is longer when attached to the tv. IMO a fifth wheel is easier to pull.

We're just the opposite. Towed 2 different TT's for 25 + years. Switched over to a 5er a couple of years ago and will never go back to pulling a TT. Pulled 1st TT with a '91 F-250 457CI & an '04, 6.0 F-250 PSD. PSD also pulled the 2nd TT (wasn't love but wasn't bad). Then got our '13 F-150 Eco to pull the 2nd TT (31') and it was 97.3% better. Wife wanted to go shorter so we could fit into more FSCG's, so we went with the shorter 28' 5er. For me, it pulls so much better that either TT did and is allot easier to hitch up. As far as backing, once I learned my reference points for the 5er, it's been a whole bunch easier for me to back than the TT's were.

PS.... I was a school bus driver instructor for 15 yrs & taught reference point driving classes during annual bus institutes ...learn your reference points if you haven't. Makes driving & towing so much easier.

most of the +/- have been touched on. there are compromises with either one.
why not rent a tt for a day or 2 and compare the towing differences to determine if you're willing to make those compromises BEFORE you plunk down the $$ ??

I needed the truck bed for motorcycle.

toy haulers kill the living space. my opinion.
except for the one with a motorcycle storage area that is a slide out. but big money, not seen one in person..
