Tire Clearance

I have a Rockwood Windjammer 3008W trailer. For those of you that have this trailer or the Flagstaff equivalent, how much clearance do you have from the top of the tire to the bottom of the wheel well? I noticed when putting on the tire covers that there is very little clearance.

We have a Windjammer 3008W, too. You should call Forest River or your dealer. We had to have new axles installed and a new tire. Our tires rubbed the wheel well and ruined one tire and wore into bottom of trailer. Another option was a lift kit, but we pushed for different axles. No problem since. We love our trailer.

Thanks for the reply. That is exactly what happened to us. Apparantly the axles were defective from the beginning as I never had very much clearance. Contacted Rockwood warranty service and they are sending two new axles to a dealer near me. Hopefully that will fix the problem. We really love our trailer too.

How much clearance do you have now with the new axles?

We now have a couple of inches because the new axles have a different tension setting. The pitch on the original axles was wrong. We bought the Windjammer in TX while on a trip and drove it back to northern MO before we noticed the problem. Forest River sent us to near Kansas City for repairs, new axles and a one new tire. We had the trip back home and another trip since and it is okay now. Good luck with yours.

Wow, we have identical trailers with identical problems. I am learning a lot from this problem. Dexter makes axles with different pitch settings. I am now convinced I too have the wrong pitch just like you instead of an alxe failure. From contacting Rockwood and two dealers, 2 inch clearance is what we should have.
