Not necessarily true. I have seen so called HD towing packages with 3.08 or 3.42 axles. These are not HD towing axles.

Thanks so much Bill, I think we'll be in good hands with this one. The previous owner took good care of it and we'll have the brakes checked just in case.

Yep, WD hitch and sways will be coming with us.

On a chevy 5.3 with a 4 speed? Those axle ratio's would be ok if you had a 5-8 speed transmission. Kinda doesn't make sense for GM to put an HD towing package on a vehicle and equip it with a 3.08 axle. 3.42 may be ok.

It's a 3.43 axle with the HD towing package and a tow/haul feature on the steering wheel. The manual says it will tow 8,100 lbs. so I think we'll be okay.

8100#, you need to deduct added accessories, cargo and passengers, hitch.
