Tow/Haul mode with TT

On my antique Duramax/Allison truck, I use TH any time I'm towing. Slightly higher rpm shifts help keep it in a good torque range and keep EGTs down on hard acceleration, like merging onto 70 mph freeways. Keeping it in TH helps in heavy traffic-the extra braking comes in handy when idiots dive in front of you and stand on their brakes to make that offramp and, of course, the extra braking on mountain roads is priceless. Use TH when towing, that's why they designed it and called it "Tow/Haul".....

OK I am a cherry here. I just got our first TT and drove it home from FL to LA...And was concerned about transmission and engine temps and monitored them closely...I found driving in 3 towing I ran the coolest transmission temps in the mid 180's and in tow haul I was in the mid 190's....Now in tow haul do you tow in 3 still or if I read correctly you leave the transmission in O and the tow haul engaged.

I have a 5.3 liter pulling a 4000 empty weight Evergreen ascend and installed a Curt 17500 full time anti sway and wdh with the unit. It pulled great just a little more anxiety than pulling your boat. Thanks from Tangipahoa Parish.

you didn't mention what yr truck you tow with.. my gmc is a 2013 w/5.3 and 3.42 ratio rear. always tow in overdrive. only use tow/haul on steep grades. tt weighs about 4600 and trans. temp. in overdrive stays cooler than tow/haul..135 to 170 degrees vs 160 to 210 degrees...

Not sure about your reference to 3 because i dont know how many gears you have. My diesel is a 6sp and still uses all gears in tow/haul. If yours is a 4 speed and 4th is an overdrive, then yes, keep it in 3 or o/d off, especially with a gas engine and 3.42 rear. Otherwise it may "row" between 3rd and 4th, which increases temps.
Tow/haul won't do much for anyone on the highway in flat areas. It will mostly just help around town and hills.
