Tow Numbers

Hi folks,

Looking at getting a GMC 3500 HD for my trailer. Please check my math.
I as m having great difficulty finding 3500 HD's in my area.

These are just very rough numbers I was able to get via internet and estimate to help determine if 2500 is good.
A good wd hitch will definitely help.

Some basic numbers
Trailer (Grand Design Reflection 315RLTS)
GVWR 10995
Estimated TW (15% + 250) 1899

Truck
2020 GMC 2500HD Duramax
Estimated UVW 7800
GVWR W/Duramax 11350
GCWR 27500
FAWR 5600
RAWR 6600
Estimated Payload 3563- my safety factor 250 (3313)
Estimated empty Actual RAW 3900
Passengers and cargo 1000

Numbers show plenty of margin
Estimated payload including tw is 2899
Estimated RAW is 6399
Estimated GVW is 10699
Estimated GCWR is 21694

This calculates in max tw + 250

All green by my numbers

The GM strike is over so give GM s few weeks before you will see more 2020 3500 SRW trucks at the dealerships. IMHO these are very nice trucks and really got beefed up for the 2020 model year. The 2020 2500HD has a 6,600lb rear axle while the 2020 3500HD has a 7,600lb rear axle.

I would really try to wait until more 3500HD SRW trucks are built.

I agree. The difference in price is negligible and the cargo capacity is much increased, and you will appreciate that when towing a nearly 40' long billboard in the wind. Why not get that model in a 5th wheel? Much more stable in the wind.

Ok, will wait a bit. Let the inventory build up.

Wife absolutely did not want 5th wheel. Got her to look at a few.

Happy wife you know the story.

Absolutely go for the 3500. Depending on options the 3500 is about the same cost as the 2500. If you're patient, you should be able to pick one up for about 10K off MSRP. That deal is usually harder to find on 3500s vs the 2500s. It's difficult to option out the 2500 to get the CCC of the 3500. If you do end up with a 2500, you'll need to add airbags to level the load.

Hi Folks,

I wanted first to say thank you to all of you for your inputs.

I found a deal on a 2019 3500HD Duramax I could not pass up. So, I am the proud owner of a 2019 3500HD Duramax Denali!

Already did my first tow picking up my trailer. 85 miles including a 12 mile 6% grade. Excellent towing platform. Power was plentiful and very stable.

Guys that get a 2020 model will be even better off

Thanks!

I also got an Equalizer Trunion style WD hitch with 1400 pound bars.
